The latest numbers at Android Developers reveal that Android 2.x is still growing strong on Android smartphones. The numbers now reveal that Android 2.1 accounts for 39.6 percent while Android 2.2 has risen to 43.4 percent.
As expected, Android 1.5 and 1.6 continues to die down with 1.5 taking 6.3% and 1.6 taking 10.6 percent.
The numbers are calculated over a two week period and are found by grabbing the data when users visit the Android Market within the last 14 days. This indicates that people are upgrading from version 1.x to 2.x, but also indicates that users might be slowing down and upgrading their old 1.x smartphones for newer phones.
The growth rate of Android 2.2 increased in the last couple of weeks as did 2.1. Android 2.3 is almost here, so expect that to eat in to the chart in the next month or two.
