Rumors are indicating that Apple [AAPL] has purchased a small Bluetooth wireless headphone designer in San Francisco called Wi-Gear.
Wi-Gear has made three generations of A2DP stereo headphones which they call iMuffs. These headphones use a Bluetooth 2.0 adapter to communicate with a music source on older devices. For those devices that are compatible, the adapter is not needed.
A notice on the companies website now says that they have ceased operations and are no longer in business.
The rumors indicate that Apple could have purchased the company for their expertise in Bluetooth stereo headphones, perhaps for a later iOS device to launch in the future.
9to5Mac did some digging around and found that Michael Kim (co-founder of Wi-Gear) now works at Apple as an iOS Bluetooth Engineer.
