If you want to change the look of your iPhone, the normal method requires that you jailbreak it to get the kind of access you need to change things.
However, for those who haven’t jailbroken their iOS device, there is another way to now customise the icons used for apps. The method requires that you run some software on your Mac or PC and connect up your iPhone so that you can browse around folders of the device.
The method allows you to change the icons on apps you have downloaded via the iTunes store or app store. Any icons for apps pre-installed on the device such as Messages, Email, Phone, Safari cannot be changed at this time.
The steps are as follows… (using the software found here).
1. First open iPhone Explorer and navigate into the app’s folder, located in /Apps/appname.app/appname.app.app (whereappname is the name of the app you want to change and devicename is the name of your device).
2. Within that folder, find the png file that is the icon, named something like [email protected] for an iPhone 4, or Icon.png for iPhone 3GS and below. Back that up and replace it with your own icon
3. Make sure the icon is in PNG format and is 114×114 pixels for the iPhone 4, 57×57 for the iPhone 3GS and earlier. After rebooting your phone, you should see the old icon replaced with your new one.
