A number of retailers have leaked the release date of the Google Nexus 7 in France. The leaked date reveals that the device will be released on September 3.
Only the 16GB model is going on sale at first which will then be followed by the 8GB model at a later date. Various stores will have the tablet available which includes Fnac, Darty and Boulanger.
As well as a launch in France, this has also led others to believe that the Nexus 7 will launch in various other locations across Europe shortly after the release in France.
Price wise, it looks like the 16GB model will be selling for €249.90 which includes sales tax. If purchased through the official Google Play store, you also get it for the same price but also will get $25 to spend in the Google Play store on apps and other various content.
At the moment, Google is only allowing sales of the Nexus 7 on Google Play or at physical stores. It doesn’t allow web only stores to sell the device with suggestions that the very small margins just don’t allow it.
After having a quick test of a Nexus 7 a few days ago, based on first impressions I could highly recommend the device if an iPad is larger than you need, or if you simply want to avoid Apple. The only criticism is that there isn’t enough content for it at the moment in the form of tablet apps. The majority of apps available are mobile phone apps that are just scaled up in size. When more are built for the 7 inch screen, it will become a much wanted device.
