Well, it looks like the untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak release date just got a little closer with Musclenerd uploading a video to youtube demonstrating an iOS 4.2.1 iPod touch 4G booting untethered and then loading up Cydia.
Up till now, the iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak has required the phone/iPod to be tethered when booting, so the progress demonstrated on here means we are a step closer to getting rid of the wires when booting up.
Booting a JB ipt4g 4.2.1 using 4.2b3 kernel. @comex’s method once it’s working is better suited for 4.2.1. This method burns no holes.
The video below shows the device booting although the creator (Musclenerd) forgot to specifically show the dock connector although you do get a brief view of the bottom of the phone at 48 seconds. Also, with this being musclenerd showing the iOS 4.2.1 device booting, we are inclined to believe that no trickery is happening here.
Updated video below showing the dock connector more clearly. Although it’s an iPod touch 4G jailbreak you see happening here, Musclenerd comments that it works on any iOS 4.2.1 device.
