The iPhone Dev-Team has just announced in a blog post that Ultrasn0w is about to be updated to Ultrasn0w 1.2 (any moment now). The new 1.2 version is capable of unlocking an iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS on (as well as older baseband iPhone 4) running the following basebands…
iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and now 06.15.00
One thing you might note here is that 05.14 and 05.15 is missing from the list. Luckily there is a way around this where you download the iPad iOS 3.2.2 firmware and use the PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition to update the baseband to 06.15.00. This baseband is unlockable by the Ultrasn0w 1.2 tool.
Rather than running to grab Ultrasn0w 1.2 now and installing it with the wrong baseband on your iPhone 3G or 3GS, check out the full details over at the Dev-Team blog that gives specific instructions on how to unlock. You might need to act quickly to get the 3.2.2 firmware from Apple as they will more than likely take the download off the site after a sudden influx of people downloading it.
