Comex, the developer of the iPhone 4 Jailbreak (JailbreakMe 2.0) has posted the source code of the said jailbreak.
The source code was released right after Apple [AAPL] launched the iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 updates that blocked and prevented the jailbreak from working.
The exploits that comex used to jailbreak the iOS could be used for other purposes, including delivering malicious payloads to grab control of iPhones, iPads , and iPod Touches. All that would be necessary is for hackers to dupe users into visiting a malicious Web site or persuading them to click on a link in an e-mail or text message.
Several comments have been made on Twitter about the source code including a remark from the chief research officer at F-Secure who said “Impressive. And dangerous,”.
The problem with the source code being released is that those who get their hands on it could potentially use it to break in to any iDevice that hasn’t had the 4.0.2 or 3.2.2 iOS update.
With the code being released, it is now recommended that users actually update their phones or iPad to prevent being attacked with this method. An alternative way would be to install the patch found on Cydia that puts up a warning box each time a PDF tries to re-open.
