VISA has launched a pilot scheme that allows people travelling in New York to use their iPhone as a payment system.
The system is called VISA payWave and allows you to simply open up an application and wave the phone over various paypoints located around the underground. When a payment is detected you can then proceed through the barrier to make your journey.
As well as using the iPhone for the pilot test, VISA is also looking at payment cards as well for an alternative quick method for making payments.
VISA is also going to bring the payment system to retailers in NYC by working with Bank of America. The main benefits of this system is the convenience that it allows for. Not having to carry cash or card around with you makes it a lot easier and quicker to make payments.
