Lenova Ideapad S12 with NVIDIA Ion

Lenova have released a new netbook named the IdeaPad S12 which is the first netbook to use NVIDIA’s Ion chipset. The Ion based motherboards use the NVIDIA 9400m graphics chip along with an Intel Atom processor. The combination allows HD as well as excellent 3D gaming capabilities from the tiny form factor netbooks.

The graphics chip will be capable of 1080p video decoding as well as accelerated h.264 video playback as well as Blu-ray playback. The Ideapad S12 will feature a 12 inch display that has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Other hardware features include 1080p via an external screen using the HDMI port, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, XP Home installed as standard (although MS will probably certify Windows Vista to be used), a 4 in 1 card reader and a 1.3 megapixel webcam can also be found in there.

3G will not be standard although an Express Card slot can be found in the side of the S12 netbook which allows a 3G card to be used. A total of 3 USB 2.0 ports can be found and a multitouch trackpad which is an excellent addition.

Prices for the Lenova S12 will start at $449 and the netbook will start shipping in August.
