Last time we heard, Geohot had left the iOS jailbreak scene. We now see that he is back and has released Limera1n. Limera1n allows you to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on several devices which includes the iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G all using 4.0-4.1.
The new iOS 4.1 jailbreak uses a different exploit to what the GreenPois0n jailbreak does and because of this, the team behind GreenPois0n (that uses SHAtter), have decided to delay the launch so that Apple [AAPL] doesn’t have the opportunity to patch two exploits.
The Limera1n jailbreak only works for users with a Windows PC at the moment although a Mac version of the tool is coming. Also due to the complicated nature of the jailbreak, the process is a little more involved than just 1 click. We also see details on the Limera1n home page that reveal the jailbreak is also untethered with thanks going to comex.
We also hear that Apple TV is supported by this, but nothing is available just yet and it has been untested at the moment.
As always, make sure you search around for those with problems. Since launch there have been 4 Betas of the tool launched to fix various bugs here and there, so keep an eye out to make sure its stable before proceeding.
You can download the jailbreak from here.
