Telef³nica will be the first mobile carrier in Europe to launch the Novatel MiFi 2352 mobile hotspot. CrunchGear managed to run some testing on it over at MWC2009 today.
The Novatel MiFi 2352 is a slim and small device in which you put your data enabled SIM card in. When the device is powered on a small wi-fi network is created allowing a group of up to 5 wireless devices to connect and then share a mobile broadband connection. Broadband speeds over a mobile network can reach up to 7.2Mbps in perfect conditions which is not a bad amount at all. However, in reality they normally average between 2Mbps and 4Mbps which is still sufficient for most tasks.
When switched on the Novatel MiFi 2352 takes just seconds to boot up and once booted, it is ready to go. The battery is USB chargeable and is also swappable which is handy for when travelling or when used in demanding situations. The device can also store up to 16GB of data on it via a MicroSD card. A GPS is also included allowing you to track where you are too I guess for geo-tagging type stuff or even satnav when laptops connect up to it.
Configuration is simple through a basic menu system which just has the basics such as wi-fi security settings, SSID and also 3G connection information to a mobile network.
