Panasonic have announced a new rugged tablet called the Toughbook H1 Field. The press release describes the H1 as being the most rugged handheld tablet in the world. The H1 tablet is certified to reach both IP65 and MIL-STD-810G standards which allows it to handle drops of up to six feet.
Several options are being made available for the Toughbook H1 Field Tablet that include SmartCard, RFID and Barcode readers as well as optional camera, GPS and mobile broadband that is provided on a Qualcomm chip.
Powering the Toughbook H1 is an Intel Atom 1.86GHz processor and the battery will keep the tablet running for up to six hours on a single charge.
The six hours battery life from a single battery is actually increased by using twin hot swappable batteries allowing it to be used almost full time. The device has a 10.4 inch dual-touch display that is covered with anti-glare and anti-reflective treatments allowing it to be viewed in sunlight. Memory wise it has 2GB of RAM along with 64GB of storage provided by a solid state drive (SSD).
The Toughbook H1 Field offers a range of embedded wireless connectivity options including 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® 2.1 and Qualcomm’s new Gobi2000TM technology which simplifies complex multi-carrier wireless deployments for IT departments. The H1 Field will be certified on the Sprint and Verizon Wireless networks, allowing workers to stay connected at all times. Other wireless carrier certifications will be announced soon.
The Toughbook H1 is being launched in March and will cost around $3,379 when available.
