The Times is reporting that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will also have the option of installing Chrome OS when it launches. Although this is believed to be an option, it isn’t one that will be supported out of the box. Instead, you’ll need to do the update yourself.
It is recommended that those wanting to use Chrome OS on the Galaxy Tab consult a professional before the update, and perhaps even have someone who knows what they are doing perform the update as it isn’t simply a task of selecting the OS and installing it, a lot of changes need to be made to get it on there.
The downside of all this is that right now it’s just a “claim” by the Times who do not provide a source of information.
If it is true it will be a bonus for the Galaxy Tab as the Android 2.2 it runs is actually designed for a smartphone rather than a tablet which causes issues with apps not looking quite right.
As an alternative, it is expected that Google will launch Android 3.0 (AKA Gingerbread) sometime late this year which is rumoured to be the tablet friendly version of Android.
