Samsung has filed a patent that details a device with dual-touch features. What this means is that the screen on the front will be touch-sensitive as normal, but also that the back of the device will integrate touch.
The patent shows all the details and describes the system as a ‘Mobile terminal having dual touch screen and method of controlling content thereinĀ.
If implemented on a tablet device it would allow users to hold the device and control functions on screen by sliding fingers across the back of the device.
Samsung file a lot of patents with a lot of those that never make it to production. We believe that the Samsung Galaxy Tab that is being announced soon will not make use of dual-touch surfaces and that this patent will probably get stored away for a few years. It’s a great idea, but I just don’t see it happening just yet.
