New Windows Phone from HTC leaked – the HTC 8X

A few days ago a new smartphone called the HTC Accord was leaked along with a few specs. It appears that this device will now be known as the HTC 8X when it launches. From what I can see on the picture below, it will be running Windows Phone 8 as the operating system.

Windows Phone 8 release date revealed

Although not official details, ZDNet has been told by an anonymous source at Microsoft that the Windows Phone 8 release date will be October 29. This date is a few days after the launch of Windows 8 and when Windows Phone 8 arrives a few days later although this is specifically talking about the announcement rather than handset availability.

Windows Phone 8 Likely to Launch in November

A report over at ZDNET indicates that Microsoft will be releasing Windows Phone 8 in November of this year. The OS has an RTM (release to manufacturer) date in September which would give manufactures a couple of months to get devices ready for launch.

Windows Phone Tango will be launching in China this month. A launch event is being held to show Windows Phone 7.5 and was announced with an invitation that says “the carefully designed, refined, and all-new Windows Phone 7.5 will be landing in China”.

Windows Phone to Get Nokia PureView Cameras

Nokia has confirmed that the new PureView camera technology will be installed on various Windows Phones which are coming soon. For those of you unsure, PureView comes from a new Symbian based smartphone called the Nokia 808 PureView and is used to identify a cameraphone different to others that you have seen. The sensor on the Symbian version is 41 megapixels allowing for extremely high res pictures to be taken or for lower res images to be digitally zoomed without losing any quality.

Some screenshots have leaked online which apparently show the next version of Windows Phone which is to be called Tango.

The screenshots appear to show MMS messages with video and audio files attached. Also, a new native voice recording app can be seen in the update.

Ask Ziggy Voice Control for Windows Phone Launches

Windows Phone users have another option for voice control today thanks to an app called Ask Ziggy. The new app was created by Shai Leib and can be seen in some ways as being similar to Apple Siri and the Android equivalent. The app lets users use voice to ask the phone questions such as directions, flight status, stock prices, weather as well as calculations and questions.

Microsoft Offering Free Windows Phones to Disgruntled Android Users

Microsoft [MSFT] is using Twitter to promote Windows Phone in a slightly different way. Rather than selling the benefits of the Microsoft smartphone operating system, they are focussing on the bad of Android and some recent malware issues it has had.
