Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg has commented that the company plan to get rid of unlimited data plans with in the next four to six months.
Replacing the plans will be tiered data plans based on consumption of the user. As for pricing, it is unknown if Verizon [VZ] will go higher or lower than the likes of AT&T [T] who also recently got rid of unlimited data plans.
The CEO noted that Verizon values data differently to its competition. This doesn’t really make it clear if Verizon will become more expensive or cheaper than AT&T on a per MB calculation.
What we are expecting is that Verizon is going to be getting the iPhone soon and that in preparation for the mass influx of data usage they are attempting to get rid of “unlimited” as to keep control of what data is used by mobile internet users of which iPhone users are often at the top of the table.
