The standard YouTube upload limit normally allows for 15 minutes of video to be uploaded. YouTube has now announced that on some accounts, this restriction is being lifted. This limit removal is believed to be related to the launch of Google TV.
To ensure that uploaded content is allowed to be there, YouTube is putting controls in place to protect copyrights. The system to be used is called Content ID and that software will be used to scan for illegal content as files are uploaded to YouTube.
Joshua Siegel, product manager at YouTube, has told the NYT that copyright issues will now be under control with the new Content ID system. As for the amount of volume that will be scanned with Content ID, it is estimated at 100 years of content per day that will run through it.
