Seagate to Reveal Ultra-Thin Drives for Netbooks at CES

Seagate-Momentus-ThinSeagate are planning to unveil a new hard drive at CES next month that will see the form factor reduced to just 7 millimetres. The 7mm form factor is a saving of about 25% from the current drives used in netbooks and will allow netbook manufacturers to design even thinner models.

Traditionally the thicker the drive the more platters could be crammed inside it allowing for more storage space. Thanks to advances in technology, drive makers such as Seagate are now capable of getting a sufficient amount of data on to a single platter, thus saving space in thickness of the drive. Dual Touchscreen Tablet – Harlequin

Dual-Touch-Screen-TabletA user over on the MyDellMini forums has created a dual touchscreen netbook by using a Dell Mini 9 netbook and a 9″ USB DisplayLink monitor and connecting them together.

The device is the Harlequin Project and was designed to experiment with a dual touchscreen user interface (ie, similar to the Microsoft Courier) as well as design testing.

The Harlequin works as it is now and has Windows 7 installed which can detect both screens and the touchscreen overlays without issues except there are still some calibration issues on the second monitor. [Read more…]

Battle of the Fork Lifts

forklift_challengeBattle of the Fork Lifts is a game that requires you use your fork lift truck skills to move miniature pallets around. Now, full sized fork lifts are fun for some reason, but these little ones just seem to take the fun out of it.

The idea of the games seems that you need to move a pallet around to another location and successfully stack the pallet on top of other pallets while the other player tries to ram you off the road and make you spill the contents of what you are carrying. [Read more…]

Buffalo USB 3.0 ExpressCard

Buffalo-USB-3-0-Express-CardBuffalo have created a USB 3.0 ExpressCard that in theory should be capable of transferring data at up to 5GBps depending on what sort of ExpressCard it is (ie, 1.0 or 2.0). If the former older version then speed of data transfer will be restricted to 2.5GBps.

As USB 3.0 is still in it’s very early stages I’d suggest waiting for reviews of the USB 3.0 ExpressCard to be completed before jumping in and buying one. [Read more…]

Twoddler Lets Toddlers Twitter

twoddler-twitter-machine-for-toddlersIf you feel your toddler needs a voice on the Twitter micro blogging service then this gadget should be on their Christmas list (not like we think there is any point to it, but we thought we’d mention it anyway). The gadget is called Twoddler and uses sensors to capture a toddlers activity on a twoddler board that is internet connected. Each sensor has pre-defined text that is transmitted to twitter as of when needed.

It’s a bizarre idea if you ask me, but I guess there might be some who think their children need to be heard on twitter. [Read more…]
