Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 with HTML5 Support – Wont work on XP

Microsoft [MSFT] have made Internet Explorer 9 available for download as a developer preview. (download available at ietestdrive.com)

Internet Explorer 9 is expected to support HTML5 and have a new JavaScript engine that MS have codenamed Chakra. Also support for CSS3 and SVG2 is said to be included.

What Microsoft want to achieve with Internet Explorer 9 (or IE9) is a faster browsing experience that gives a better user experience which will be welcomed by anybody. Windows Phone 7 Series doesn’t have Copy and Paste

In a surprising move from Microsoft [MSFT] it turns out that Windows Phone 7 Series will not have copy and paste (ie, a clipboard function). Reasons for this are as follows… “There is a data-detection service built into the text-handling API that will recognize phone numbers and addresses, but Microsoft says most users, including Office users, don’t really need clipboard functionality.”

I can’t say I agree with most users not using clipboard functions. Although I use that feature a lot more on my computer, I still have a need for it on my phone. [Read more…]

Google Nexus One – A Sales Failure?

It appears that the Google Nexus One might actually be a sales failure looking at the chart above (larger version below). It is estimated that just 135,000 devices have been shipped in the first 74 days. Compare that to the likes of the Motorola DROID and the iPhone which hit around the 1 million mark things look quite bad for the Nexus One.

The amount of days (74) was decided on because of Apple [AAPL] first announcing that in those opening days of the iPhone going on sale they shifted 1 million units in that time. The other two figures are actually calculated on using stats from a company called Flurry who track app’s installed on devices (UDID’s). [Read more…]
