First Data to launch Contactless Payment Services

First Data have created a microSD based contactless payment system in collaboration with a company called Tyfone.

The new system is called SideTap. SideTap is based on a microSD card which can be inserted in to any mobile phone with a correct slot. Once inserted the phone can become a means to authorise a transaction.

By putting the system on to the microSD card it doesn’t restrict the contactless payment system to just one device as many devices are already compatible with the system. When purchasing the card you upload your financial and bank information to it allowing the data to be used when performing a transaction. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Series Devices – The ones So Far

So far there have been three Windows Phone 7 Series devices confirmed so far. Engadget managed to get a picture of all three side by side. (See larger picture below).

The first phone on the left is a Samsung that was first announced just yesterday with the second (middle phone) being an unbranded ASUS device that was first spotted a few weeks back at MWC and then the LG slider phone that was also spotted on the Engadget show a few weeks back.

The Samsung doesn’t have a name yet although it was referred to yesterday as being the Samsung Slate which could have been just referring to it being a large touch-screen device. Either way, we’ll find out the official name soon. The phone it’s self has what is believed to be an OLED screen, 256MB RAM, 8GB Flash and directX9 acceleration. [Read more…]

Autotrader iPhone Application Launched

AutoTrader have launched a new app for the Apple iPhone called the Autotrader iPhone App (UK version) that allows you to capture a picture of a licence plate which is then scanned in by the application to find the make and model of the car. Once done you have access to details on that particular model of car such as how it performs as well as reviews.

Another cool option in the application is the ability to scan through local listings of used and new cars that match the make and model allowing you to find a car nearby.

As well as being able to find reviews, performance details and new/used cars in the local area for sale, the application also gives information on how much the car costs on average around the area. [Read more…]

Apple [AAPL] started allowing people to pre-order the Apple iPad in the US where we will see the Wi-Fi model shipping April 3 and the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G models shipping late April. Both models of all capacities can be pre-ordered now.

A team at Investor Village AAPL Sanity board did some analysis of numbers and estimate that 124,596 items were ordered on the Apple site on Friday March 12 with 16,500 of those being other items that are normally ordered. They also estimated that per person an average of 1.11 iPads were ordered bringing the total up to 119,987 iPads pre-ordered in the first day. [Read more…]

Google working on making GMail Faster

Google’s email service GMail is web based and for some people it runs slow. If you only have a few hundred or few thousand emails in your GMail box then you might not be aware of the issue, however if you have hundreds of thousands or even millions of emails in your GMail inbox then the service runs slow.

Google [GOOG] are aware of this apparently and are already working on a fix for those “power users” who are hit with the problem.

It is unknown how Google are going to fix GMail for power users, but we assume some back-end change with perhaps a more dedicated solution being set up for super busy accounts. [Read more…]

HTC HD2 NOT getting Windows Phone 7 Series – Confirmed by Microsoft

The bad news has finally been confirmed by Microsoft [MSFT] saying that the HTC HD2 will NOT be able to get a Windows Phone 7 Series upgrade. This was kind of revealed last week, but not through an official channel.

For a few months there were a few hints around from various HTC Twitter streams as well as some information from Adobe forums indicating that the HD2 might be getting the update, but just last week some information was put together showing that the HTC HD2 doesn’t meet specific hardware requirements that Windows Phone 7 Series demands.

In particular Windows Phone 7 Series devices much have three physical buttons on the front of the device, the HD2 has five buttons. Also other restrictions within the hardware (nothing confirmed technical wise) is believed to be another factor. This could include the graphical capabilities of the device not being up to par. Apple iPhone HD Concept new name for iPhone 4G?

According to the YouTube video linked below, the iPhone 4G could be called the Apple iPhone HD. The Youtube user who uploaded the video says “New iPhone HD ad from Apple” in his comments although from what we see it seems a little fake to be honest.

If Apple were to design the new iPhone to look like this it would be the first major shift to a different design since the original iPhone was launched. Since launch the only changes that have been made to the device are making it a bit thinner as well as a few other slight changes on the casing. Other than that it’s almost the same.

Although I don’t personally believe it’s the next gen iPhone I do believe some of the features seen in the video could well be included in the next generation iPhone. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone Virtual Keypad – User gets 83 Words Per Minute

If you thought a physical keyboard was the only way to tap out a text message on a phone then think again.

Youtube user konceptzoflife successfully managed to tap out a message at an impressive 83 words per minute which is quite amazing if you ask me. The test was done on an Apple iPhone running some software called iTextSpeed to put the words on the page which are then typed in as fast as possible. [Read more…]

ASUS Eee T101MT gets a Full Review

Back towards the end of February we came across a review of the ASUS T101MT netbook tablet that although was excellent, it had quite a bad bug in that the top inch or so of the screen just didn’t respond to touch correctly with the accuracy being way out. Another model has since shipped since the pre-production review unit and we now hear that all is actually working perfect which is good to hear.

The ASUS T101MT is an Intel Atom N450 tablet device that runs at 1.66GHz. For graphics it has an on-board Intel GMA 3150 graphics chip. The T101MT comes with 2GB of RAM installed and for storage it has a 320GB hard drive which is complimented by ASUS’ online EEE storage giving another several hundred GB of storage space.
