Dell IPS-Based Displays Launched

Dell has launched a couple of new displays that use IPS (in-plane switching) panels. The two new displays called the U2211H and the U2111H measure 21.5 inches and 23 inches respectively.

Each display is capable of full HD at 1080p and due to the IPS technology used, the image quality is higher than that used in regular LCD screens.

Official details of how they perform has not been revealed just yet, but due to IPS each should have a wider viewing angle and sharper image quality.

Each has a DisplayPort and DVI input and the screens can produce a 1000:1 static contrast ration. As well as being a monitor, a handy USB hub with 4 ports is built in to the screens. [Read more…]

Bing Navigation tested on HTC HD2

A few days ago, Microsoft [MSFT] released a new version of Bing Navigation for Windows Mobile based phones. The new version is now capable of full voice-prompt text-to-speech navigation allowing the phone to tell you what street name to turn left on to rather than saying turn left in 40 yards etc…

Also the Bing Navigation software can, in some cases, notify you which side of the road the destination is on assuming you tell it exactly where you want to be taken.

Another new feature is a full screen graphic that shows you the direction you need to turn. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G running iPhone OS 4.0 is Photoshopped

We posted earlier today about an Apple iPhone 4G (leaked phone) that was running what appeared to be iPhone OS 4.0. After some people did some investigating they believe that the OS 4.0 overlay is now fake and photoshopped on to the original picture.

Reasons for believing this to be the case is for a couple of things. The first is the left edge of the screen appearing to be too close to the edge making a smaller bezel than actually exists.

Also there is a grey strip that runs on the right side at the top of the screen. According to those in the know, this strip should continue all the way across the top of the screen to the left side of the device. [Read more…]

AirVolt Wireless iPhone Charger

If you quite like the idea of charging your Apple iPhone wirelessly then the AirVolt Wireless iPhone charger is for you. The AirVolt is a ThinkGeek Exclusive: you won’t find it anywhere else! Simply slide your phone into the included receiver case, place it on the power tray, and watch in amazement as your phone charges wirelessly via induction. BlackBerry Tablet info Leaked

BGR managed to get some exclusive information on the upcoming BlackBerry Tablet that we first mentioned last week. Before we go on, the image above is just a mock-up of what it might look like.

The BlackBerry Tablet will have an 8.9 inch screen and will be classed as a “companion” device. What this means is that the device will have no 3G connection built in, but instead, will be a companion to your BlackBerry smartphone. WiFi will be built in, but the way to get on-line on the go will be via a BlueTooth connection to your BlackBerry device. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G Spotted the Third Time

Well, we have another few images of the Apple iPhone 4G that appear to have come from a third leak. Previous leaks included the Gizmodo leak last month and the Vietnamese leak a couple of days ago.

This model is also a 16GB model and like the Vietnamese model, lacks the screws either side of the 30 pin dock connector. The Gizmodo phone was believed to be an older prototype as it still contained the screws just like the iPhone 3G and 3GS have.

Not much information has been provided about this particular leak, and perhaps we are looking at the same iPhone 4G that was photographed in Vietnam this week. [Read more…]

Sprint Launch Common Cents Mobile – New Prepaid Brand at Walmart

Sprint [S] has launched a new prepaid brand that is heading exclusively to Walmart stores. The new brand is called Common Cents Mobile and has basic plans that includes 7 cents per minute calls and 7 cent text messages as part of the deal.

One unique features of the new Sprint Common Cents Mobile system is that it actually rounds-down calls to the nearest minute meaning that if your call is 7 minutes 59 seconds long you get charged for 7 minutes rather than 8 minutes.

“In recent months, consumers seeking no-frills, pay-by-the-minute plans have been somewhat overlooked with the popularity of unlimited plans in the market,” said Dan Schulman, president of Sprint’s prepaid group. “These customers want to stay connected — to a point — but don’t want to waste time or money on services they don’t use. The addition of Common Cents combines easy-to-use handsets with a simple pay-by-the-minute service that can save them money.”

Unlimited monthly plans without contracts helped re-energize the prepaid business last year but pay-by-the-minute customers still represent the majority [63 percent] of prepaid market share, and almost half [49 percent] of prepaid gross adds.

Adobe Attack Apple with New Ads

Adobe and Apple [AAPL] have been in the news a fair bit recently with this Flash business. They still seem to be feeling the pains as they just started up a new campaign over on Engadget where two ads are showing. The first says “We [heart] Apple” and the second ad says “What we don’t love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the web”.

As well as pushing the ads on to Engadget, a letter has also been written by Adobe saying what they feel about the situation…

We believe that consumers should be able to freely access their favorite content and applications, regardless of what computer they have, what browser they like, or what device suits their needs. No company – no matter how big or how creative – should dictate what you can create, how you create it, or what you can experience on the web.

When markets are open, anyone with a great idea has a chance to drive innovation and find new customers. Adobe’s business philosophy is based on a premise that, in an open market, the best products will win in the end – and the best way to compete is to create the best technology and innovate faster than your competitors.

We believe that Apple, by taking the opposite approach, has taken a step that could undermine this next chapter of the web – the chapter in which mobile devices outnumber computers, any individual can be a publisher, and content is accessed anywhere and at any time.

In the end, we believe the question is really this: Who controls the World Wide Web? And we believe the answer is: nobody – and everybody, but certainly not a single company.
