iPad microSIM not Compatible with iPhone 4

For those of you wanting to switch out your iPad microSIM in to your iPhone 4 when it arrives next week, Apple [AAPL] has confirmed that doing this will not actually work.

In the FAQ section on the iPhone 4 page the question and answer are provided as follows…

Q: Are iPhone 4 and iPad micro-SIM cards interchangeable?

A: No. Your iPad micro-SIM card will not work with your iPhone.

While it says the microSIMs from an iPad are incompatible, we believe that this is not so much a compatibility issue on a technical side, but rather the limited functions of the microSIM from an iPad which has no voice enabled on it. When calling the phone number of an iPad you just get an error saying unable to connect. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 AT&T Pre-orders Suspended

Apple [AAPL] in both the UK and US had issues yesterday with the iPhone 4 pre-orders overwhelming the servers.

AT&T [T] is also suffering too with the company suspending pre-orders. It appears that the only way to order an iPhone 4 in the US at the moment is through Apple on their online store although new pre-orders are now being shipped ready for delivery on July 2.

It isn’t clear when AT&T will bring pre-orders back up online, but yesterday we heard that some stores in the US were using paper to record new iPhone orders and we guess that the company has a huge backlog to get through. [Read more…]

Xbox 360 Fathers Day Deal hits Walmart

Walmart in the US is offering a deal where you can pick up an Xbox 360 + 2 games and a $50 voucher for $149. That potentially brings the price down to $99 if you are intending to pick up other stuff whilst in store.

The offer is already available and limited to 1 per customer and will run till stocks have gone. We suspect that it’s partly to do with it being fathers day this weekend as well as the launch of the Xbox 360 slim to get rid of older stock. [Read more…]

Microsoft to Pay Devs to Port iPhone games to Windows Phone 7

Microsoft [MSFT] is trying to play catchup due to companies such as Apple [AAPL] releasing the iPhone and Google [GOOG] releasing Android. Their current Windows Mobile 6.X just doesn’t cut it these days.

To shift things up a gear, Microsoft are in the process of creating Windows Phone 7 and surprisingly, it actually looks good. The OS hasn’t launched yet, but will be doing towards the end of this year.

To try catch back up to Apple, Microsoft is looking at throwing cash towards popular iPhone app developers and offering them that cash to port their popular iPhone OS (or iOS as it’s now called) games over to the Windows Phone 7 platform. [Read more…]

Three MiFi Review – First Impressions

Three recently sent us a Three MiFi for review to test and see how it performs and what it’s all about. MiFi devices are handy as they are quite small (the size of a small mobile phone) and act as a portable wireless hotspots connected up to 3G networks. What makes them good is that you can easily leave the device in a bag, or on the desk next to you and easily connect up any device by just entering the encryption key. Unlike the previous mobile dongles which required software to be installed on a PC or laptop so you could connect up to 3G, the MiFi wireless modems connect automatically by pushing a button on the device. Your laptop or smartphone then just connects up as it would to a router at home with no hassle. As there is no software to install it works extremely well with Wireless Apple iPads and easily allows the iPad to connect and work while out and about.

The model we got is the Huawei E5830 that comes with the unit it’s self, a short USB cable for charging, a SIM card and a battery. On the front is an information display (not a screen as such) that shows the status of the device. 5 LED’s are on the front which show if Wi-Fi is enabled, what the Mode is, signal, roaming and battery. What is Google TV? YouTube Video Explains it All

You might have heard recently about Google [GOOG] moving in to the TV business by launching Google TV. Google TV comes in two forms, the first is a set top companion box that sits in-between your cable/satellite providers box and your TV and the second is Google TV built in to new TV’s The system allows you to watch what you want, when you want.

Rather than going over all the details in a post and trying to explain in the best detail I can, I’ll let the video that Google uploaded to YouTube yesterday show you what it is. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 US Pre-orders Also shipping July 2

Earlier today we reported that the Apple store had sold out of iPhone 4 UK pre-orders and that new pre-orders were not expected to ship now till July 2.

AT&T has also got the same message with all July 24 pre-orders selling out within 24 hours. That is certainly some achievement. Although some might say that there could have been a shortage of iPhone 4 smartphones available, hence they sold out so quick, we suspect that a lot were actually sold as server issues plagued the system all day on Apple [AAPL] and AT&Ts [T] side indicating very high traffic to the Apple store.

The best bet now will be to try stores that are taking pre-orders although we heard that Best Buy, Radio Shack and Wal Mart (and others we might have missed) are not actually taking pre-orders. [Read more…]

AT&T Hit with iPhone 4 Pre-order Security Issues

For those ordering the iPhone 4 in the US yesterday, you’ll probably be more than aware of the issues that arose from trying to make a simple order. Some are reporting that they tried for up to 3 hours trying to get a pre-order through while others are now also indicating that they saw other peoples accounts when completing the order process.

This news follows an incident last week where 114,000 email addresses were made available of iPad 3G customers. This was also a security fault at AT&T.

AT&T are unable to recreate what has happened to customers but did say that nobody saw any credit card details, addresses or social security numbers. Either way, it’s a pretty big mess up on their behalf. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 UK Pre-orders Now Shipping July 2

If you were planning on pre-ordering a SIM free iPhone 4 in the UK this week then you will now need to wait an extra week before it ships to you.

After yesterdays server problems at Apple [AAPL] due to the high amount of people wanting to order the iPhone 4, it somehow magically seems that they have shifted the first shipment of the smartphone. We now see on the Apple store that new iPhone 4 pre-orders are not shipping till July 2 making those who left it too long wait an extra week.

It is unclear why carriers are yet to open their pre-order pages, especially with Apple selling their first batch of pre-orders in less than a day. [Read more…]
