Sony Vaio P Second Gen Now Available for Pre-Order

The Sony Vaio P second generation model is getting ready for launch in the US. The Sony Style site in the US today put up a pre-order option on the laptop.

The cost of the Sony Vaio P is $899.99 (numbered VPC-P113KX) and will be launching in a few weeks time on or around June 25. The Vaio P laptop comes in several colours although the downside of the US model is that it lacks some higher end options. The model available for pre-order is the only one available that runs an Intel Atom Z530 processor clocked at 1.60GHz along with a 128GB SSD (rather than a larger 256GB). [Read more…]

Apple iOS 4 Jailbreak for 3GS Already Complete

Yesterday Apple [AAPL] released the renamed iOS 4 GM (formerly iPhone OS 4.0) to developers. After only a day a developer has managed to create PwnageTool bundles for the iPhone 3GS iOS 4 GM download allowing users to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS whilst preserving the baseband so that the device can be unlocked.

If you are an advanced iPhone user then you might want to go ahead now and apply the iOS 4 GM jailbreak although we recommend just hanging on a bit longer as the iPhone Dev Team have promised a jailbreak and unlock this month for iOS 4. [Read more…]

iWork for iPhone 4 Accidentally confirmed

Apple [AAPL] appears to have accidentally confirmed the existence of iWork for the iPhone 4, or perhaps iOS 4 which would also bring it to the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

The image seen above shows iWork running on the iPhone 4 particularly when it mentions to open in Keynote. The image was captured a few hours ago but has since been removed from the Apple [AAPL] site indicating that the company are not quite ready to launch the application, or worst case, that it was just a mock up image to see what it could look like. We are inclined to believe the former rather than the latter and expect to see details soon from Apple. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 UK Launch on T-Mobile

T-Mobile today became the forth carrier to announce it will be offering the Apple iPhone 4 in the UK in the next couple of weeks.

As with the other three carriers, no pricing has been made available yet although we expect that T-Mobile, Orange, O2 and Vodafone will all announce prices either on or before June 15 when pre-orders open up for the new device.

For those unaware, Apple [AAPL] announced the iPhone 4 yesterday morning at WWDC along with a launch date of June 24 across five countries. Only US pricing is currently available which indicates on AT&T that a 16GB iPhone 4 will cost $199 with a 2 year contract or $299 for the 32GB iPhone 4 model. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 Antenna Could fix Dropped Call Problems

If you watched the D8 interview last week with Steve Jobs, you might have noticed a question about dropped calls and call availability. Steve said something along the lines of reception “should be getting a lot better soon” on the AT&T network. We first thought that this was all related to AT&T making changes to their network and upgrading it across the US, but after watching the WWDC keynote yesterday, we noticed a lot of information was given about the new antennas included on the iPhone 4. It appears that both Apple [AAPL] and AT&T are working on fixing the issues.

You might have noticed that there are 3 gaps in the stainless steel band that wraps around the edges of the iPhone. These are not a design flaw, but rather a feature of the phone that separates the stainless steel band in to three sections that makes the whole structure of the phone act as antenna. The left side section of band handles the GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity while the right side band and lower band (that also stretches over the top of the device) handles UMTS and GSM connectivity. Having the whole structure of the phone act as an antenna should hopefully give a stronger signal and hence, fewer dropped calls or fewer “searching” messages that often show up in the status bar. Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 Reviewed

A few weeks back, Sony announced a couple of new cameras called the Sony NEX-3 and the Sony NEX-5. Both cameras looked very impressive. Each uses the Micro Four Thirds format making both cameras very compact.

The Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 concept was first displayed a few months ago. At that point we saw a very small bodied camera with a DSLR lens on the front. We didn’t expect them to arrive this quick though.

Each camera falls in to the Alpha range of digital SLR cameras although the lens mount differs in that a new E-mount is used on the NEX-3 and NEX-5. [Read more…]

Apple iTunes 9.2 Features

Apple [AAPL] will be launching iTunes 9.2 soon. Right now it is available to those in the developers program only and will be tested and launched we suspect within the next week or so.

iTunes 9.2 has a number of features which includes the ability to connect to the iPhone 4, syncing abilities of the iPhone, iPod Touch and iOS 4 with iBooks 1.1. PDF document organisation is included.

iOS 4 brings folders to the iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G. The new iTunes 9.2 brings the folder features to iTunes allowing you manage your applications and folders in iTunes to sync them to the iPhone. The iOS 4 release date is June 21 which we suspect that iTunes 9.2 will be made ready either the same time, or a few days before. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 UK Coming to Vodafone, Orange and O2

The iPhone 4 UK launch is scheduled for June 24 here in the UK. Three networks so far have confirmed that they will be selling the iPhone 4 on launch day. These networks include Orange, O2 and Vodafone. Carphonewarehouse will also be offering the iPhone 4 although they sell for other networks rather than owning their own network.

Unfortunately pricing for the UK iPhone 4 has not been revealed yet although Geeky Gadgets has made a few estimates based on pricing + tax when compared to the subsidised versions over at AT&T. Estimations indicate that we could be getting the iPhone 4 in the UK for £169 for the 16GB version and £249 for the 32GB version although with the vast array of tariffs we have in the UK, we probably will see a free model on the higher end price range with prices varying in between for the amount you are willing to commit each month. Polar WearLink+ Heart Rate Monitor for Nike+ Announced

Nike [NKE] has announced along with Polar the Polar WearLink+ device. The new device is designed to work with Nike+ and acts as a heart rate monitor that interfaces with a range of Polar devices as well as Nike+ devices such as iPods.

This exciting new piece of equipment is worn comfortably round the chest and transmits the user’s heart rate wirelessly to their Nike+ iPod Sport Kit or Sportband. It will improve the training experience of Nike+ users helping them to understand how hard they are working in any given run. Users can see their beats per minute while they run with their Nike+ SportBand, or hear spoken feedback of their BPM during their Nike+ iPod workout. And after training, heart rate data can be transferred to the nikeplus.com web service. Users can track how long they ran in their target heart rate zone and see their heart rate progress over time.
