iPhone 4 Augmented Reality App Uses Gyroscope

Since the iPhone 4 has launched we haven’t come across too many apps that use the built-in gyroscope.

However, today we came across Acrossair. Acrossair is an augmented reality app that allows you to search for things with an augmented reality overlay on a live camera feed. The iOS 4 compatible app when running on the iPhone 4, makes use of the built-in gyroscope to add a more silky smooth layer on top of the video feed. Microsoft Kinect UK Price Revealed

The Microsoft Kinect price in the UK will be £129.99 from what we see over at Amazon.co.uk. As well as getting the Kinect for £129.99, you also get Kinect Adventures along with it too. However, it appears that the Kinect wont be shipping till later this year.

The cheapest way to get a Kinect seems to be purchasing it along side an Xbox 360 where the total price with the Xbox 360, Kinect and Kinect Adventures will be £249.97. [Read more…]

T-Mobile HSPA+ Network Becomes Available to 85 Million Americans

T-Mobile has announced that it’s HSPA+ network is now able to deliver 4G speeds in the US to 85 million people.

The company is moving forwards and continuing to expand it’s network to 100 metropolitan areas that will by the end of the year, cover 185 million people.

“The aggressive pace of our HSPA+ network rollout means our customers can enjoy a better mobile broadband experience on more devices in more places today-but we’re not done yet. Our first HSPA+ smartphone is coming soon and our footprint will double between now and the end of the year.”

Apple Post Third Quarter Results – All-Time Record Revenue

Yesterday, Apple [AAPL] posted it’s third quarter results. The quarter included a full three months of iPad sales along with the roll out of the iPhone 4.

Profits reported were $3.25b with revenues of $15.7b which is an increase the same quarter from last year.

Apple sold 3.27 million iPads. The iPhone 4 sold well although the iPod is showing decline at the moment. An interesting detail mentioned on the call was that the iPad and iPhone 4 stocks are constantly being sold. Everything the company can make is being sold which is quite impressive. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID X Screen Issues Confirmed by Verizon

Yesterday, we saw a few reports that the Motorola DROID X had problems in some cases with it’s screen. The problems caused flickering and banding across the screen on some devices.

Verizon [VZ] and Motorola [MOT] have both confirmed that there has been problems on a few of the DROID X devices. The numbers revealed indicated that one-tenth of one percent of the devices have the problem.

If your Motorola Droid X has the flickering screen problem, or problems with banding across the screen then Verizon recommend you contact either Verizon or Motorola to work things out. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID 2 Running Android 2.2 Captured

Droid-Life has managed to get hold of a picture of the Motorola DROID 2. The image (larger below), came from a reader who managed to spend some time with the DROID 2 over the weekend.

There’s a number of things we don’t currently know about the DROID 2 as we have only seen a few leaks so far. These revolve around the hardware of the phone, the Android OS version running on the phone as well as pricing and official release date details.

The image and the testing of it does answer a few of the questions though which now reveal that the Droid 2 runs Android 2.2 Froyo. We also hear it has a 1GHz processor inside and a combination of these makes it run very fast. [Read more…]

MaxiVista – Use your iPad as a Second PC Monitor

There’s already an app available for the Apple iPad that lets you use the iPad as a second monitor wirelessly for a Mac. The version for the Mac is called Air Display and although there’s talk of a Windows version, it hasn’t happened yet.

MaxiVista is an app for the iPad that allows you to use the iPad as a secondary monitor for Windows based PC’s. The iPad screen can have windows dragged on to it as well as play video, view Skype messages and whatever you want to use on the second screen. HP PALMPAD Trademark Filed

The HP Slate running webOS could have an official name now. The name that is believed to be final is HP PALMPAD. The reason for believing this is due to some documents where the trademark was filed for that name by HP.

The trademark was filed on July 9 by HP and is listed in a number of categories as follows…

Computers, computer hardware, computer software, computer peripherals, portable computers, handheld and mobile computers, PDAs, electronic notepads, mobile digital electronic devices

BlackBerry Storm 3 Details Leaked

Yesterday, the BlackBerry Storm 3 was spotted in a document. Today, we noticed over on Engadget that they managed to get hold of a screen shot of a training manual that shows the smartphone is getting a few upgrades. The upgrades that will appear on the Storm 3 indicate that it will be more capable of running BlackBerry OS 6.

The RAM on the Storm 3 will be double that of the Storm 2 giving it 512MB to work with. The camera will increase to 5 megapixels and wireless connectivity is bumped up to 802.11n. Another decent feature is the ability to make the Storm 3 in to a wireless hotspot although that is listed under the “coming soon” banner which we assume will not be available at launch. ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC Switched to Android 3.0

The ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC was originally built to run a new operating system from Microsoft [MSFT] called Windows 7 Embedded Compact. Instead, ASUS are now believed to be switching to Google Android 3.0 when it launches.

It is expected that the Eee PC will arrive at CES in 2011 along with the new Android operating system from Google [GOOG].

Right now, the only technical specs we know for the machine show that it has a 10 inch touchscreen, measures 12.2mm thick and weighs 675g. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID 2 Preparing for an August 23 Launch

More leaked shots of the Motorola DROID 2 have been spotted. The new pictures come from a packaging facility and show what look to be a number of images being printed for the packaging.

The rumoured launch date of August 23 is still believed to be correct at the moment although Engadget hope that this moves closer due to all the leaks that are coming out over the last few weeks.

New features on the DROID 2 include an improved keyboard, an 8GB microSD card, and from what we understand, more memory on board. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 FaceTime Used in the Pacific Ocean

We have previously seen the iPhone 4 FaceTime feature used when flying in a plane. The next video shows FaceTime being used from a boat 1000 miles away from any land in the Pacific Ocean.

The video call was made to Santa Cruz and uses a satellite connection that is commonly found on those who sail across the sea. The results are quite amazing when looking at the quality of the video stream and hearing the voice quality.

The sound does drop out slightly a few times but that could be related to it being hands free and surrounding noises muting the sound a little. [Read more…]
