Sony 3D T&C Recommend Children See Eye Doctor Before Playing

With the Sony PS3 3D update comes a few new paragraphs in the terms and conditions for using the games console. The new paragraphs recommend that users of 3D games be careful when viewing 3D imagery due to the strain it can put on eyes.

What Sony say is that some people experience discomfort as in eye strain, fatigue or nausea whilst watching 3D and if it effects you, you should stop playing and rest a while.

Recommendations also suggest that regular breaks are taken whilst watching 3D content. They also go on to say that children, specifically under six years old, should visit an eye doctor before playing 3D games due to the children’s eyes developing at that young age. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID X Inventory Limited

Droid-Life managed to get hold of some screen shots showing how many DROID X smartphones a number of locations across the US will be getting. From what the numbers show, it appears that the DROID X inventory will be limited.

Some of the stores are seeing as little as 5 units whilst some of them are a bit higher in the 60’s. Most numbers look to be between 15 and 40 per store.

Of course this might be the “current” inventory with the stores getting more delivered tomorrow and Thursday ready for the launch. [Read more…]

Windows Phone Live offers Remote Wipe and Location Tracking

The Windows Steam Blog is pushing out some content today. We have heard a few things from them today including the Windows Phone Developer Tools beta launch.

What we hear now in their latest post is that Windows Phone Live will offer remote wipe capabilities as well as the ability to track the location of the phone. The Windows Phone Live website will allow two sets of functions to be performed. The first set handles the syncing of data with the cloud such as pictures, contracts and any other data that you store on the device. The second function handles the phone hardware whereby you can activate the GPS if the device is lost, perform remote wipes as well as lock it, ring it and interact with the phone in a way to help it be returned to it’s owner. EpicWin RPG To-Do List

EpicWin is an app launching soon that spruces up your To-Do list a little by making it in to an RPG game. Most to-do lists are just lists of items stored on paper, in Outlook or wherever that show a list of things you need to do. Often the reminder gets delayed 5 minutes and another 5 minutes and another day etc… until nothing really gets done.

What EpicWin attempts to do is make completing tasks more rewarding. You enter your to-do list on to the EpicWin iPhone app and it becomes part of an RPG. When you mark off your to-do list one at a time, ie – you accomplish tasks rather than postponing them, you get rewarded in the game. As you complete more tasks you jump up levels, get more stamina and other bonuses. [Read more…]

Windows 7 Downgrade to XP Deadline Extended

Microsoft [MSFT] has extended the deadline for users wanting to downgrade from Windows 7 to Windows XP. The deadline has now moved all the way to 2020.

Microsoft had planned to remove this feature this year and many users would not have been able to downgrade after 2011, but have decided to extend it as many business still use Windows XP and want to standardize operating systems over all their computers.

As well as being able to downgrade to Windows XP Professional, users can also opt to downgrade to Windows Vista if required. The end was supposed to be around the time Windows 7 Service Pack 1 launched but now is a lot further away. [Read more…]

Interactive Mars Tour Launched by Microsoft and NASA

Microsoft [MSFT] and NASA have been working together to create an interactive Mars tour. The tour took three years of data crunching on 100 computers to create and is able to show Mars in the highest resolution images available of the planet.

The system uses Microsoft’s WorldWide Telescope program and uses images collected from 40 years ago till now. The latter of the images come from the HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

There are two ways to view the imagery. The first way is to download the Microsoft software and the second is to use the Web client. [Read more…]

BlackBerry OS 6 Video Gives Another Sneak Peak

The official BlackBerry youtube channel has had a video uploaded to it teasing BlackBerry OS 6. The sneak peak shows the interface with a large touchscreen and virtual keyboard which is a step away from the normal BlackBerry norm other than the likes of the Storm 2.

The video shows some media with a lot of interaction over various means such as Twitter, Facebook and text/MMS messages.

It actually looks quite good and very workable. It is still unclear though when RIM will be launching the new OS. We had heard rumours of last month, but that never happened. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Jailbreak Wont Come From Geohot as He Retires from the Scene

Over the weekend Geohot (George Hotz) write a post titled just “Meh” showing an iPhone 4 jailbreak, ie the iPhone 4 running Cydia. We now see that Geohot has closed his blog off and made it a members only place requiring that those who want access get invited.

George updated the latest post on his blog with the following statement last night…

Sorry, this post was probably a bad idea. Next time I won’t say anything. I miss when this blog was actually about technical things(I’ve been reacting too much to the feedback, which led it to the place it’s in now). I didn’t fully realize most of the current scene don’t care unless they are getting something. Now I do. It’s late tonight, I’ll think about what to do about this in the morning.

The real reason behind no release isn’t technical. It’s just that it will never stop, after blackra1n, people demand unlock, after blacksn0w, people demand untethered. I miss the days when jailbreaking and unlocking were difficult, it attracted a much higher caliber crowd. Also, to the haters, the picture is quite obviously fake.

Skype now Blocks Fring

This one is getting a little complicated. Here is what has happened so far. Last week, the Fring iPhone app was updated allowing iOS 4 users to multitask the app, leaving it running in the background to receive calls and messages. For those using an iPhone 4, it allowed you to make video calls over WiFi and 3G to users on other devices. This was a big step forwards making the front facing camera on the phone be useful for things other than iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 FaceTime calls over WiFi which it was previously restricted to.

Shortly after the updated app went live, Skype support was “temporarily removed” due to an overload of users making use of video calling services. This, according to Fring, was done because they wanted to make Fring more reliable until the infrastructure could be updated. [Read more…]
