Apple Patent for Slide to Unlock and Character Popping Approved

Apple [AAPL] has won a patent for a couple of software features found in iOS.

The first is in relation to the “Slide to Unlock” bar that is found when you switch on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. The second is in relation to the character-pop on the virtual keyboard that Apple uses.

What it basically all means is that you can’t copy Apple by creating a Slide to Unlock that looks like the version that Apple uses. Also you cannot create a keyboard with popping characters like shown in the diagram above. [Read more…]

Apple iPad shot with a Shot Gun – All About Cheaper Tax Preparation

This is a new way to get your message across. A tax preparation company has created an advert of an Apple [AAPL] iPad being shot with a shot gun. The video is filmed at high speed so it can be slowed right down to show the effect of the glass shattering as the bullet flies right through the back of the iPad.

The reason for the advert…

Paying too much for tax preparation is a lot like…throwing money away.

T-Mobile G2 Mini Site Launched – Will Run at 4G Speeds

Almost 2 years ago, the T-Mobile G1 was launched. When launched, it ran Google Android which started a new class of smartphones. The phone seemed to quickly grow old in that many other Android smartphones have been launched although the G1 has a good following of people who still use it.

The T-Mobile G2 will soon be launching as the successor to the G1. With it will come updated features with the device it’s self capable of connecting up to the T-Mobile HSPA+ network allowing it to transfer data at 4G speeds. [Read more…]

Snow White Galaxy S Landing in South Korea

The Samsung Galaxy S will be made available soon in South Korea in White. The Android smartphone will be called the Snow White Galaxy S according to Samsung Hub although we are not too convinced it’s the right name to go with.

On to sales figures of the Samsung Galaxy S, we also hear that 800,000 units have been shifted in South Korea since the phones launch 55 days ago. That’s quite an impressive number for one country and makes it the fastest selling smartphone in South Korea. [Read more…]

Sony PSP Advert Mocks Apple iPhone

It appears that the latest Sony PSP advert is taking a dig at Apple [AAPL] iPhone users. The advert features a kid who says you can get decent games for the PSP for just $9.99 (older games) that are far better than what’s available on the mobile phones. The ad doesn’t specifically mention Apple although the phone one of the guys holds up clearly looks like an iPhone.

It isn’t clear why Sony are targeting mobile phones for gaming considering that recently it was revealed that Sony Ericsson could be making a PSP Go Android smartphone specifically aimed at gamers. Perhaps those rumours wont happen though. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Case with Built-In Bluetooth Headset

The Mogo Talk case for iPhone has just been updated to work with the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 version also has a stow-away Bluetooth headset that sits in the back of the case allowing you to keep it safe and with your iPhone whilst not in use.

Gizmodo points out though that they asked/or mentioned in a review of the older model for the 3GS that they would like the case to actually charge the Bluetooth Headset when needed. However, it doesn’t seem like it’s happening this time around. [Read more…]

Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type Series 40 Phone

Nokia has announced the Nokia X3-02 handset. It’s quite a strange phone from what we can see in that it has a regular numeric keypad on the lower part of the phone along with a 2.4 inch QVGA touchscreen above that.

The touchscreen isn’t a full replacement for the keypad though and essentially makes it easier to navigate around the device which could actually work well.

As well as having a relatively small touchscreen, the Nokia X3-02 has 3G connectivity along with wireless 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 which makes it very connectible. [Read more…]

Apple Liquid Metal Already in Use

Over the last week or so there has been some news about Apple [AAPL] buying a company out that makes Liquid metal. The metal has some unique characteristics that make it more bouncy than other metals. Rumours started going around about how a new iPhone or iPad could be made with this metal to toughen them up a little, thanks to the ability of the metal to morph a little.

We expected that in the next couple of years that this metal could be introduced somewhere in to phones although it appears that we might have already all used Liquidmetal with our iPhones and iPads and just not realised it.

The part we are talking about here is pictured above. The iPhone 3GS SIM pin is apparently made from Liquidmetal alloy. The reason this part is made of liquid metal is that it’s part of the iPhone, but not an essential part. The liquidmetal used makes the part extremely hard but at the same time very light weight.
