HTC Desire Z Release Date Getting Closer

Amazon has a habit recently for changing prices of products. The Samsung Galaxy Tab has been one device where the price has dropped from a hefty £799 down to £680 and finally down to £599 although the release date has shifted further away.

Gmail App Update Arrives in Android Market

Google [GOOG] has released a new Gmail app for Android smartphones. The new update separates the app from the core code of Android which means that Google can provide updates to the app rather than users having to wait for a new Android build to be released.

This particular version though is for Android 2.2 devices only which rules a fair few out such as the G1 and many other handsets. However, if you are running 2.2 then you can grab it now from the Android Market. Phones which do run Android 2.2 include the Nexus One, HTC EVO, Motorola Droid 2 or Motorola Droid as well as the Droid X today and a few more we might have missed.

For those who have a G1 and run the Android 2.2 build (the mod from Cyanogens team) then you might be able to get it although we haven’t had a chance to test this out yet. [Read more…]

It isn’t clear why there’s a lot of confusion over the updates. Slashgear indicate that it could be just problems with the regional differences on the device or perhaps, some problems that have surfaced at the last minute. [Read more…]

An image of the HTC 7 Trophy has been spotted online. It isn’t clear which of the HTC Windows Phone 7 devices it actually is, ie the Schubert, Mozart, Mondrian, Spark or something different as it is listed as the HTC 7 Trophy on screen, which could also be a code name in its self.

The device is listed as having 7.2GB of total storage (8GB formatted we assume) and it is running Windows Phone 7 version 7.0.7003.0. [Read more…]

Awareness iPhone App Brings Outside Noise to Music

When using earphones, it can be particularly dangerous when outside noise is blocked out. This is even more the case when using earphones that isolate noise.

The Awareness app has been built for the iPhone and is designed to work in the background of your iOS 4 device. What it does is use the microphone to track ambient noise levels. When you first load up the app, you are presented with a meter. The iPhone app measures the surrounding noise and sets a default level for the environment you are in.

When you are walking down the street for example and a loud noise occurs above the standard level, such as a truck passing or a car horn, the application lets the noise through to the earphones so you can hear the external noise. [Read more…]
