iPod touch 4th Generation Teardown

iFixit managed to get hold of an iPod touch to tear down. The iPod touch went on sale this week after being announced just last week at the Apple Special Event.

The iPod touch is very thin and hence, a lower resolution camera was used as the 5 megapixel version from the iPhone 4 just wouldn’t fit with the technology used today.

The new touch uses an A4 processor although it comes packaged with 256MB of RAM (just like the iPad) rather than the 512MB of the iPhone 4. [Read more…]

App Downloads to Beat iTunes Downloads by Christmas

Predictions reveal that the number of app downloads in the app store could take over the total number of iTunes downloads before the end of the year.

The information and chart was generated by Asymco that analysed the date to create the graph seen above.

According to the firm’s research, iTunes download rates for music and iOS apps are both still growing, but accelerating much faster for the latter. In fact, Asymco posits, based on data from the recently updated Music and App Store, that the total number of app downloads has already reached the same level as that of songs in less than half the time.

BlackBerry App World Hits 10,000 Apps

RIM has announced on it’s twitter account that the BlackBerry AppWorld has hit 10,000 apps.

Although it’s a milestone for RIM, it’s certainly a fair ways behind the likes of Google [GOOG] and Apple [AAPL] who’s market/app store’s have reached 100,000 and 250,000 respectively recently (or there abouts).

One reason the BlackBerry App World might be quite far behind is due to the types of customers who use the smartphones. BlackBerry devices are aimed at business users and a lot of them are not as versatile in terms of games and other types of apps that you see on Android and iOS devices. [Read more…]
