Nintendo 3DS Teardown

The Nintendo 3DS will be launching in Japan in the next few days. Somehow, someone managed to get hold of one early to tear it down and see exactly what Nintendo have crammed inside the case.

As you might already be aware, the Nintendo 3DS has a glasses free 3D screen allowing gamers to be more immersed in the action. Unfortunately, there is no detailed breakdown of the screen other than seeing it embedded in the casing of the 3DS, but expect over the coming weeks we’ll see a more indepth breakdown in regards to the screen. 12 More File Types Added to Google Docs Viewer

Google has updated Google Docs Viewer to now include 12 more file types.

For those not familiar with Google Docs Viewer, it is the system that Google uses to allow you to read documents found in emails without downloading the attachments, or at least thats one way to use it. Rather than cluttering your harddrive with a bunch of documents you have downloaded, the Docs Viewer lets you quickly view them in GMail for example where a webpage opens containing the document. Once verified as safe and correct, you can download if needed. [Read more…]

Motorola Xoom Tablet Will Not Include Flash Support at Launch

Verizon has added a dedicated page to its site showing the Motorola Xoom along with the release date of February 24.

The screen shot above shows a few of the already known specs but also hints that Adobe Flash will not be available on the tablet at launch. The reason for this is believed to be because of Motorola waiting for Adobe Flash 10.2 to be launched for Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Although for some this might cause a problem, the release date is suggested as Spring 2011, so essentially, it wont be that far away till it is made available. [Read more…]

Apple Could Introduce New High-Speed Connector

Apple is expected to soon announce a high-speed connector based on Intel Light Peak technology. The Intel Light Peak system allows data to be transmitted at high speed over copper wires and in the future, copper will be replaced with fiber-optic.

It is believed that the high-speed connector that Apple introduce will use the Light Peak technology, but not use that as the name for it, ie: they will work with Intel and launch it under a different name. [Read more…]

New Toshiba Android Honeycomb Tablet Could be the Antares

At CES earlier this year, Toshiba unveiled a new Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet. When it was first unveiled, it ran Android 2.2 as no Android 3.0 OS was available for demonstration.

We know a lot of the specs on this device such as it having an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core CPU along with a 10.1 inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. We also know that the battery is removable and that there’s a HDMI port and USB port. [Read more…]

Android Gets a 3rd Party Windowed Interface

Ixonos is a Finnish company that is in the process of designing and building an interface for Android 3.0 tablets. The new interface is designed to bring a windowed approach to the tablet that allows users to move apps around in windows on the screen.

This new interface brings a familiar desktop feel to tablet computers allowing, for example, the mail app to be opened and resized in a window on the left of the screen, while the right side of the screen could house a browser. You’re not just restricted to two windows either as windows can be dragged and resized and put any where on the screen, as well as overlapping each other like found on a desktop. [Read more…]

iPad 2 Case is Smaller: Original iPad Wont Fit

We’ve been hearing that the new iPad 2 will be a bit smaller than the original although it will still retain the same 9.7 inch screen. This of course means that the relatively fat bezel will actually be made smaller.

Some possible proof may have been found to indicate how much smaller the new iPad 2 will be and from what we see, it wont be by a huge amount although it will be a tad thinner too.

MIC Gadget managed to get hold of a real iPad 2 case that has a camera hole in the back as well as being slightly smaller and thinner. Apparently, the case seen in the embedded video below is a case that has held a real iPad 2 and not just a mockup model like previously seen. [Read more…]

Dell Tablet Roadmap Hints at Windows 8 Early 2012

Android Central managed to get hold of a roadmap from Dell about which tablets are being released over the coming year.

Something interesting was found at the end of the time scale for January 2012, that interesting item is a reference to a Windows 8 tablet. Speculation has now begun that Microsoft [MSFT] could begin using Window 8 on tablets as early as the first quarter of 2012 although a number of people have questioned if 1Q2012 is just a bit too soon. MacBook Pro Refresh Hinted At

A new MacBook Pro is about due, and we now are beginning to see hints that this is indeed the case. What we see today is that supplies are starting to dry up in various countries around the world. One of those is particular areas of the world is Asia where MacBook Pros are now shipping in 2 to 4 business days rather than in 24 hours.

To add to this, several other reports have also leaked information that show five new MacBook Pro models will be launched. As well as finding this information out, some model numbers were also provided which includes the MC720, MC721, MC723, MC724 and MC725. This is actually 1 model short of the six currently available MacBook Pros. This could mean that the larger 17 inch model is being dropped, but more likely that the mid range 15 inch model is being dropped. [Read more…]

Apple Could Offer a Cheaper iPhone

Large publications have recently received information that hints at a smaller iPhone launching this year, along with a regular sized device. We now hear from the NYT that the smaller phone wont be coming any time soon, but instead, the next generation iPhone will actually be cheaper.

Instead of making a cheaper iPhone that is smaller, it appears that Apple is looking at lowering the cost of the parts, hopefully not the quality, to get the price tag down. [Read more…]
