iOS 5 has been available to developers for a few months now. A number of new features are included such as better notifications, reminders and various other features. When Apple [AAPL] took the stage today they announced the iOS 5 release date as October 12 which is this time next week.

LG Optimus LTE Now Official
A new smartphone has been announced by LG. The LG Optimus LTE has a few new features which includes LTE connectivity to speed up downloads of data. As well as getting a connectivity boost, LG has also included a 4.5 inch IPS display which they call IPS True HD. The resolution of the screen is 1280 x 720 pixels and is claimed to be the first of its kind that will launch in South Korea.
Nikon D800 Likely to Get 36 Megapixel Sensor
Some technical specs of a new camera from Nikon have surfaced. The new DSLR camera is expected to be the Nikon D800 and when it launches, it will have a 36 megapixel sensor. The Nikonrumors site puts a 99% probability on this bit of information.

We’re just over 6 hours away from the launch event for the iPhone 5 and as expected, more details/rumours carry on appearing on the web. The next rumour says that Apple [AAPL] is signing a deal with Sprint so that the network gets an exclusive on the iPhone 5 for the remainder of this year. The transaction is rumoured to be worth $20 billion as they have committed to buy 30 million iPhones.
iPhone 5 Assistant Mockup Video Created
One of the main features of the rumoured iPhone 5 is something called Assistant. The new service is expected to be for the new iPhone only rather than on older generation devices. The reason for this is that it needs an Apple A5 processor to run successfully.
Make no mistake: Apple’s ‘mainstreaming’ Artificial Intelligence in the form of a Virtual Personal Assistant is a groundbreaking event. I’d go so far as to say it is a World-Changing event. Right now a few people dabble in partial AI enabled apps like Google Voice Actions, Vlingo or Nuance Go. Siri was many iterations ahead of these technologies, or at least it was two years ago. This is REAL AI with REAL market use. If the rumors are true, Apple will enable millions upon millions of people to interact with machines with natural language. The PAL will get things done and this is only the tip of the iceberg. We’re talking another technology revolution. A new computing paradigm shift.
Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Rolling out to 50% of Users
Microsoft reports that Windows Phone 7.5 Mango is working well on smartphones that it has rolled out to. The company also announced on the Windows Team Blog that within hours they had seen successful updates on every network in every country on almost every up-datable WP7 device.
Amazon Kindle Fire Could Cost $150 to Make
Since the launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire, some have speculated (and calculated) that Amazon is losing $50 per tablet sold. More numbers have now been calculated that indicate Amazon is actually making $50 per tablet sold.
iPhone Smartphone Share Drops a Little
The chart below was created by Chitika (the ad network) and shows smartphone usage across its network of a good number of websites. The numbers reveal that between August and September of this year that the Apple smartphone usage dropped 1.4% down to 48%. Filling the gap was RIM and and Samsung going up to 4% and 11%.
Google Maps Gets Helicopter View for Directions
Google has added a new view to Google Maps. When planning a journey you now have the option to specify a helicopter view of your route. The reason behind the change is so that you can fly along your route before driving it to get a sense of where you are going and what you’ll see on the way.
