The X220 and X220 convertible laptop/tablet have been announced by Lenovo. The new devices show some quite impressive numbers, especially where battery life is detailed. We see in the press release that users can expect up to 24 hours of use on a single charge which puts them far above other similar devices already available on the market.
Lenovo also claim that performance is about 75% better than other ultraportable devices.
Back to the battery, one thing to note is that this isn’t the regular battery that comes supplied. Instead, you get 15 hours out of the standard 9-cell battery and if you hook up an external battery, it further adds another 9 hours on to the total life. Either way, 15 with the regular and an extra 9 with the external is still excellent.
When compared to the previous model, the X220 has a slightly larger screen that is bumped up from the 12.1 inches and is now 12.5 inches. The screen has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels (optional from what we can see), and is an IPS display allowing for wider viewing angles. You can choose up to 8GB of RAM (DDR3) and have an option of several processors which includes an i3, i5 or i7 from Intel.
The convertible laptop has a lower battery life at 16 hours with the external pack, so perhaps 7 hours without at a rough guess. We also hear there is a Gorilla Glass screen option on the tablet version if wanted/needed, we suspect that will be a yes you want and need it, but we don’t know the price of that just yet.
Price wise, the X220 and X220T will start at $899 and $1,199 for the lowest spec models with prices jumping up as you add more RAM and the faster CPUs.
Expect them both to be released soon.
