We posted an article yesterday regarding pretty impressive stats concerning Xbox LIVE’s online multiplayer gamers logging on to Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Receiving raving reviews (GameSpot for example giving the game a 9.0 with the only downside being that the campaign mode is too short) Black Ops has managed to sell 5.6 million copies in the UK and North America combining to gross a grand total of $360 million during the game’s first 24hrs. Though inspite of this, many gamers arrived home after the games midnight release disappointed due to lag issues and graphical glitches and the like.
But you can’t fault the numbers. The numbers reported eclipse those received by Modern Warfare 2 during it’s own first 24hrs around this time last year. In that time 4.7 million copies of MW 2 were sold, earning $310 million in revenue. Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc said…
“There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year’s five-day global sales record of $550 million. The game’s success underscores the pop culture appeal of the brand. Call of Duty: Black Ops is the finest game that Treyarch has ever made and raises the bar for online gameplay by delivering the deepest and most intense Call of Duty experience yet. The Call of Duty franchise has over 25 million players around the world that are engaged in billions of hours of online gameplay, and we are committed to supporting them with new content and features on a more frequent and regular basis.”
So what are your thoughts on the Black Ops? Does it live up to the hype? Tell us what you think.
