Andy Rubin has commented that the Google Android operating system is seeing 700,000 devices activated each day. A lot of those will be smartphones although Android is also installed on tablets as well.
To clarify what 700,000/day actually means, the following can be quoted:
…and for those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and “activations” means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.
This number of new activations per day is up from previous numbers which were 550,000 per day earlier this year.
Although there are many who prefer iOS devices there is no doubt that Android is seeing success with that many activations per day.
