Acer A510/A511 Tegra 3 Android Tablet Confirmed

Acer will be launching a new Tegra 3 based tablet in the new year. Two models have been identified which are the A510 and A511. The specs show that they will have the quad-core Tegra 3 processor inside and that they will run the Google Android operating system, we assume Ice Cream Sandwich.

The screen will have a 1280 x 800 resolution although the size isn’t known at the moment. The main difference between the two models is that one will be WiFi (the A510) while the other will also have 3G built in.

This becomes one of the first Tegra 3 tablets to be announced although we already have the Transformer Prime which will be launching next month. With CES 2012 just around the corner, we expect to see a lot more tablets being announced either before or ready for demonstration at the electronics event.

If you read our post about the Tegra 3 you’ll have seen the demo of the chip and what it is capable of doing. Adding four cores to the processor allows a lot more work to be done. The chip actually runs more efficiently too as it has a fifth core for simple tasks. This low powered core can do some of the basic work without having to activate the four main cores which then makes a power saving over the older Tegra chips even though this one has a lot more power.
