Yesterday we were informed by Adobe that they were halting work on Adobe Flash for Mobile and instead they are to be working on HTML5 content and Adobe AIR content. We now hear that Adobe is also stopping work on Flash for TVs.
“Adobe will continue to support existing licensees who are planning on supporting Flash Player for web browsing on digital home devices and are using the Flash Player Porting Kit to do so. However we believe the right approach to deliver content on televisions is through applications, not a web browsing experience, and we will continue to encourage the device and content publishing community down that path.”
Rather than encouraging the creation of content for TVs using Flash, Adobe will be directing developers in the direction of apps like Adobe AIR to package content up in to usable apps on TVs and other similar devices.
