The Alex eReader (long awaited eReader) will be shipping today according to a press release published yesterday.
The Alex eReader is a dual screen eReader device that has an eInk screen on the top side with a smaller colour LCD touchscreen on the lower side. This allows users to scan through books on the quicker screen but then read on a clearer screen to conserve battery life.
The device weighs just 11 ounces and runs the Android operating system. Support for eBooks in various formats is also included. The list indicates that EPUB, PDF, HTML and TXT formats are compatible with the reader.
The first model that will ship will connect to the book store using WiFi only. Later this year it was announced that a 3G version will be launched along with an EVDO/CDMA variant.
The Alex eReader costs $399 and is less than half an inch thick. Included in the package you get headphones, AC power adapter and a USB cable along with a protective cover.
To transfer files to the eReader you can either use the built in WiFi or connect up with the USB 2.0 port.
