The Amazon Kindle Fire has been seen running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The update isn’t official and was hacked on to the Kindle Fire by a developer who goes by the name of G1011999.
Although Ice Cream Sandwich is booting on the tablet and the touchscreen works, there are still a good number of kinks to iron out to make it run as it should. One example of a big problem is that WiFi doesn’t work and in some cases the sleekness of the UI isn’t there on the tablet. Just like with any other OS put on to a device, there needs to be some optimisation which often takes a few weeks to get ready for a beta launch.
We expect more work to continue with the port and eventually we might see a final version being released for those that want to install it.
Take a look at the video below to see Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Kindle Fire.
