Android Market Switches to Google Play

Google has changed the name of the Android Market and has combined it with a service called Google Play. Google Play is now the new name of the Android Market, Google Music and the Google eBook Store. What the new service does is allow you to access all of your content across all of your Google devices. An example would be that you download a book on your Android Smartphone. All other devices (including computers) connected up to the Google Play account will immediately get that book downloaded and when opening up the book on another device, you’ll be able to continue where you left off.

play.google.com is the new URL for accessing the content and Google has also made an update available in the app store for the Android Market. When downloading it, the app will be switched to Google Play.

The following can be stored:

Store up to 20,000 songs for free and buy millions of new tracks
Download more than 450,000 Android apps and games
Browse the world’s largest selection of eBooks
Rent thousands of your favorite movies, including new releases and HD titles
