Apple has had a policy for a while now that basically says that you cannot merge multiple Apple IDs. This is becoming a problem as various change this year have caused problems with users needing to log in with each ID. Back in July TUAW said:
Some readers have been managing two Apple IDs on purpose and are now frustrated about the fact that Apple is restricting logins for automatic downloads. Others have only just discovered that they have two IDs. Most of them have already contacted Apple, only to be given the same answer without exception: Apple will not consolidate Apple ID accounts.
Reports today are now hinting that Apple is actually working on merging accounts for those with more than one. This would allow several logins to be attached to just a single ID.
Those effected most include users who also have a MobileMe account. With the launch of iCloud and iOS 5 imminent, the number of problems has also increased.
The new info comes after an email that was sent which requested information from the new CEO Tim Cook. A phone call was received by the asker with details that although this still isn’t possible to combine accounts although Apple is working on this. We don’t have a release date just yet but we hope in the next few months that this issue will be resolved.
