You are probably aware that Apple and Samsung are currently in a legal battle which has caused Samsung to have to pull various devices off the shelves recently. Over in Australia Apple is attempting to stop sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. We now hear that a judge in Sydney has suggested that Apple might need to divulge its sales number for both the US and UK iPad 2.
Apple Inc. may have to reveal iPad and iPad 2 sales figures in the U.K. and U.S. to improve its chances of barring Samsung Electronics Co. from selling the Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer in Australia, a judge said. Apple’s claim that the Samsung tablet’s release in Australia will hurt iPad sales may carry little weight if it doesn’t provide the numbers, Federal Court Justice Annabelle Bennett said in Sydney Federal Court today. ‘Unless Apple puts on evidence showing the impact in the U.S. or U.K., I can’t draw any positive assumptions,’ Bennett said.
The whole case revolves around Apple claiming that Samsung has used its smartphone and tablet design to create their own products. Samsung of course does not agree with this as it claims that those who want Android will buy Android. Apple says that the copy of the designs (or the similarities) is taking away sales from Apple.
Apple may or may not release the numbers, but it certainly adds more complexities to the case.
