Apple [AAPL] seems to have sent out a letter to music labels informing them music clips in iTunes will now jump from 30 seconds to 90 seconds in length. This policy applies to those songs that are over 2 minutes 30 seconds in length. Any tune shorter than that will continue to have a 30 second sample available.
We are pleased to let you know that we are preparing to increase the length of music previews from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on the iTunes Store in the United States. We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases.
For those who do not accept the new terms (those as is music labels), they can withdraw their music from the iTunes store. Acceptance is accepted by continuing to submit music to the store.
Do you think a 90 second preview will help you buy more music? or will it lower the amount of sales? Its hard to really say at the moment.
