Apple Safari 5 Released

Apple [AAPL] has released their latest web browser for the Mac and Windows PC. The new Apple Safari 5 brings a bunch of new features which includes new HTML5 technologies that allow developers to create richer and more dynamic sites.

Other features include Safari Reader that makes it easier to read single and multiple articles by getting rid of distractions. The performance of the Safari browser has also been increased making it up to 30% faster than Safari 4.

Options included allow you to choose Google, Yahoo! or Bing as your default search engine.

‘Safari continues to lead the pack in performance, innovation and standards support, said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. ‘Safari now runs on over 200 million devices worldwide and its open source WebKit engine runs on over 500 million devices.

Safari Reader makes it easy to read single and multipage articles on the web by presenting them in a new, scrollable view without any additional content or clutter. When Safari 5 detects an article, users can click on the Reader icon in the Smart Address Field to display the entire article for clear, uninterrupted reading with options to enlarge, print or send via email.

Safari 5 is one of the fastest browsers available. JavaScript runs 30% faster on the Mac than previous versions. It is three percent faster than Chrome 5.0 and twice as fast as Firefox 3.6.

A new DNS prefetching system has been introduced that helps with page load speeds to grab the IP address of the site more quickly and return the site quicker in return.

Safari 5 is available now for Mac and Windows based computers and is free to download at Apple.com/safari.
