ASUS are launching a new Eee PC called the ASUS Eee 1001PQ that is aimed at children. The new netbook is an update from the MK90H that was “Disney-inspired” and is now upgraded to run an Intel Atom N450 CPU.
The new netbook is being launched at CeBIT this week and will come in a couple of different colour combinations which includes Yellow/Black and Black/Purple. As well as being colourful on the outside the inside palm rest is also coloured to match the outer casing.
On to the technical specs…
The ASUS Eee 1001PQ is in the 1000 range and thus has a 10.1 inch LCD screen that’s backlit by LED. It is in a WSVGA resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and has what ASUS call “Color Shine” as a coating. The Intel Atom N450 processor runs at 1.66GHz. Memory wise it has 1GB of RAM and for storage it has a 160GB hard drive.
The webcam found in the bezel above the screen can capture video at 0.3 megapixels. On the edges of the casing are found several inputs such as USB ports and a memory card reader that can accept SD and MMC cards.
For connectivity it has Wireless built in that connects up to 801.11b/g networks. The six-cell battery is capable of keeping the ASUS 1001PQ running for 11 hours on a single charge.
Finally, the 1001PQ will run a version of Windows 7 although at the moment it is unknown which version will run although probably it will be Starter edition.
