As well as announcing the ASUS Eee Tablet, ASUS also announced the ASUS Eee Pad.
The ASUS Eee Pad comes in two sizes. The smaller screen size is 10 inches with the larger screen size being 12 inches. The 10 inch model is called the Eee Pad EP101TC and runs Windows Embedded Compact 7 which appears to be a cut down version of Windows 7 and designed specifically for tablet devices.
The 12 inch Eee Pad is called the EP121 and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. This particular model runs a CULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor and is described as ASUS as being able to handle multitasking effortlessly.
The ASUS Eee Pad 12 inch model has a unique docking station available for it that allows you to attach the tablet to a keyboard and fold it up just like a laptop. The screen then easily detaches if you want to carry around just the tablet. For those times, an on-screen virtual keyboard can be used.
The 12 inch model gets 10 hours of battery and we suspect the 10 inch model is somewhere in that range of battery life, perhaps a little more although ASUS didn’t confirm in their press release.
Engadget managed to also get a quick hands-on with the Eee Pad (both models) although the larger version was just a casing and didn’t work and the 10 inch model’s OS is in very early stages of development with a lot of features not working just yet. However, both devices show a lot of potential and look like they will add a bit of competition to the market.
Price wise, a tag of $399 to $499 has been given although the release date is not till Q1 2011.
