For a while now we have waited for the launch of the ASUS Eee PC T101MT netbook tablet device. The MT refers to the devices multi-touch capabilities.
The launch date is now getting closer with ASUS announcing that the ASUS T101MT will be made available in Europe during April (next month). When launched it will cost ‚¬499. Information from the netbook blog Liliputing has also commented saying the US launch is also going to be next month where it will cost $499. The T101MT has a 10.1 inch screen and runs the Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system although the exact hardware specifications have not been revealed just yet.
We expect that it will have an Intel Atom N450 processor running at 1.66GHz along with 2GB of DDR2 memorya 320GB hard drive. With it being a tablet based device it could also potentially come supplied with an SSD although that will be an optional extra we believe.
For connectivity the ASUS T101MT has wireless that can connect to 802.11b/g/n networks. The 10.1 inch screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and of course, is touchscreen.
Battery life on the pre-production models was around 3.5 to 4 hours when tested with a 60% brightness. Hopefully the production models that will be launched next month have improved on that as ASUS are known for some high battery life netbook devices with the ASUS 1005PE achieving an impressive 14 hours.
The downside is that reviews of the tablet have been mixed with some saying it’s just the beginning of a new range of mini tablets, and others saying the CPU is a little slow for what the tablet needs to do. The reviews were based on pre-production hardware though.
We will find out more details on how good the T101MT tablet is when it officially launches.
