Laptop Deals at Amazon for September

Amazon currently has a number of laptop deals for the month of September in its store. There are currently 18 laptop discounts available on the ASUS range which include the Republic of Gamers model, UL30 and a number of other variants.

LG Optimus Previewed

Korean Exonomic Daily appears to have had some hands-on time with the LG Optimus Windows Phone 7 smartphone.

Interesting information found in the machine translated article indicates that a voice to text message system might be built in to the Optimus. The service also moves out to emails and status updates by simply talking to the phone.

iPod nano Materials Cost Half of What First nano Cost

The current iPod nano is the sixth generation model. iSuppli decided to take a look at the individual parts to estimate how much the new iPod nano costs to build. Estimations show that it costs $43.73 to build a nano which makes it just less than half of what the first gen nano cost to build several years ago.

Apple TV Jailbreak Exploit

The Apple TV runs iOS 4.1, and because of that it means it can be jailbroke although official tests haven’t been performed yet.

The developer of the SHatter exploit, @pod2g, managed to use the SHatter code to decrypt the keys.

It’s looking like SHAtter is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. Even though the new AppleTV isn’t yet in people’s homes, the firmware is available on Apple’s normal public distribution servers and SHAtter has been used to decrypt its keys! Official Google Voice app for iPhone Already Approved?

It appears that the official Google Voice app for iPhone could be launching within the next few weeks. TechCrunch managed to get information from a source close to Google [GOOG] that the app has already been approved and that it is being prepared for compatibility with iOS 4 and multitasking to allow it to run in the background.

Last year, Apple [AAPL] blocked the application, so right now it seems like a complete u-turn. It is believed that Apple making the guidelines public has allowed it in as a look through shows that the app doesn’t break any guidelines, meaning it should now be allowed in (which is has been). BlackBerry Tablet Announced as the PlayBook

RIM has announced the BlackBerry Tablet. Its real name is the PlayBook and all the details have been announced along with pictures of the device.

Technical spec wise, the PlayBook will run a Cortex A9 running at 1GHz. The CPU is dual-core. It will have 1GB of RAM. The screen measures 7 inches.

The operating system running on the PlayBook is QNX as expected. As for launch dates, it is expected in the US in the first quarter of 2011 and internationally it will arrive sometime in Q2. Prices have not yet been revealed. [Read more…]

BlackPad OS Details Could be Announced Tonight

Tonight, RIM will be announcing at a developers conference some details about the BlackPad. However, what wont be announced are details about the tablet its self, rather just the inner workings that developers will need to know.

The keynote will be delivered by Mike Lazaridis and although no hardware will specifically be mentioned, we should get some good details about what RIM wants to do with the QNX OS that is expected to be used. If lucky, we might get a glimpse in a photo, but it is unlikely. [Read more…]

Reports show that F1 2010 has hit the number one spot this week in terms of sales. It has beaten Halo: Reach as well as Dead Rishing 2 combined.

T-Mobile G2 Lacks Tethering on Launch

T-Mobile has confirmed that tethering on the G2 will not be available in the beginning. T-Mobile also says that they are aware that users want tethering and the company is working on a solution to provide/support users at a later date.

“T-Mobile does not currently support handset tethering or offer a tethering rate plan. Though tethering and Wi-Fi sharing will not be initially supported on the T-Mobile G2, we know that consumers are interested in these features and we are working to develop a solution to support them in the future.”

Sharp Galapagos e-Reader Tablets Announced

Sharp is to launch a couple of e-Reader tablet devices later this year. They will be both called the Sharp Galapagos and will come in two versions one of which will have a 5.5 inch screen and a 1024 x 600 pixel display. The second model will be a larger 10.8 inch device with a resolution of 1366 x 800 pixels.

Each device will have an LCD screen. For connectivity they will have 802.11b/g wireless and for navigation they will have a trackball.

Each device is scheduled to be launched in December of this year and the launch will be accompanied by the launch of 30,000 newspapers, magazines and books for reading on the device. [Read more…]

Two Palm Phones Could Launch Soon

Rumours about two new Palm webOS based phones and a new TouchStone have started circulating.

The details of the devices were revealed in a certification database. The database used was the same one that originally tracked the launch of the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus which indicates that this could potentially be the real deal.
