Sony Reader Touch Edition Discontinued

Recently, some details of a new Sony Reader were found online which indicated a couple of new models would be incoming.

The Digital Reader is reporting today that the Sony PRS600 has now been discontinued which indicates the previously mentioned PRS-650 model could be incoming soon.

The discontinued status normally appears on a third party website when a retailer tries to order a new batch of that model to sell and is told there are none available. [Read more…]

Toshiba SmartPad Tablet Leaked

Some leaked shots of the Toshiba SmartPad tablet have been leaked online. The images show what is believed to be a new tablet being launched by Toshiba in the next few months.

The images were found by NotebookItalia and are similar in looks to what was briefly seen in July of this year. The name of SmartPad is believed to be the official name of the new Toshiba Tablet.

It isn’t clear when Toshiba will unveil the new tablet although we could see it at IFA in a few weeks time. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S Stock Android 2.1 Update Available – Unofficially

It is possible to run a stock Android 2.1 firmware on a Galaxy Samsung S. Reasons for wanting to do this include getting rid of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface which a number of people don’t like.

The Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.1 update isn’t official though. It’s actually a modified version from the official Google [GOOG] Android updates and unfortunately doesn’t allow all features of the phone to work just yet.

LineScout Robot Poweline Inspector

Powerlines occasionally get faults such as cables breaking due to wear and tear from thousands of volts being pumped through them.

Fixing them requires specialist equipment so that the maintenance workers can move the cables around while they are still live. Of course, it’s a rather dangerous occupation.

For this reason the LineScout has been created. The LineScout is a robot that can inspect powerlines and point maintenance workers in the right direction to fix the cables. [Read more…]

Android App Revenue of a Developer Detailed

If you have ever wondered how much an Android app developer can make, Arron La has decided to detail his earnings from an Android app that he created in February 2009.

The app in question costs $0.99 and is called Advanced Task Manager. What the app does is allows Android users to kill tasks and services that stay running even when a particular app has been closed down.

‘Advanced Task ManagerĀ is an Android application I created in February 2009. At that time, it was needed mainly to kill running services that a number of applications spawned but never ended. Some of these services would start at boot time and remain running indefinitely, causing slowdowns on the phone.

Dell Mini 1018 Launching in Europe

Dell is launching a new version of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 in Europe. The new model is called the Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 and although similar to the previous version, it does include a few updates to set it apart from the older model.

The new version has a similar processor that runs at 1.66GHz. The previous model was the Intel Atom N450. This new model has an Intel Atom N455 which brings compatibility with DDR3 memory.

The touchpad has also received an update that brings separate left and right buttons rather than the integrated buttons on the previous model. Also the netbook is one colour rather than two. [Read more…]

HTC Tablet to use N-Trig Screen

N-Trig isn’t a well known company although you might have heard of the Microsoft [MSFT] Surface computer which uses these particular screens.

We now hear that the same company, N-Trig, will also be providing screens for the upcoming HTC Tablet devices. The screen for the HTC Tablet will of course be multi-touch.

The HTC Tablet is expected to be the Google Tablet much like the Nexus One was built for Google [GOOG] by HTC. The tablet is expected to run the new Chrome OS. [Read more…]

EKING M5 UMPC Launching

EKING is launching a new UMPC called the EKING M5. The M5 was launched on to the Chinese market back on August 17 of this year (Valentines Day).

Features included in this device include a full QWERTY keyboard and a tilting screen. It has a 5 inch screen that has a WSCGA resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The screen is backlit by LED and the screen is suplied by Sharp.

The screen is capacitive touch enabled and does support multi-touch according to Pocketables. [Read more…]

Pocketbook Android Powered e-Reader Incoming

Pocketbook has announced five new eBook Readers that will be launched at IFA this September.

The new Pocketbook devices include 2 entry level devices called the ProBook 602 and the 902. The next up is the ProBook 603 and 903. The 60X devices each have six inch screens while the 90X devices have 9.7 inch screens. [Read more…]

Texting Record Broken

Melissa Thompson has managed to break the texting world record by typing out a text message in just 25.94 seconds. This is around 9 seconds faster than the previous record which stood at 35 seconds.

This particular world record requires that those entering type in a specific phrase…

Google Streaming Search Results

When doing a search on Google [GOOG], you will have noticed over the last several months, perhaps longer, that as you type, suggestions drop below the search box giving you hints at what you want to search for.

An even newer service has been spotted recently that indicates Google could be displaying actual search results as you type the search in the search box. This is believed to be called Google Streaming Search Results and as you start to enter text, the results keep changing on each letter typed to perhaps let you get your result a little quicker. Kodak PLAYTOUCH and EASYSHARE Video Cameras Announced

Kodak has announced the Kodak PLAYTOUCH video camera. The camera has a 3 inch touchscreen on the back along with optimised HD playback.

The touchscreen is capacitive and allows you to “glide” through HD videos that have been captured by swiping left of right on the screen. Other features include on-camera editing as well as a Share Button that lets you more easily share captured video content with friends and family. The camera is capable of capturing video at full HD 1080p.

The PLAYTOUCH from Kodak also includes image stabilisation, an LCD glare shield and an external microphone jack. By connecting the camcorder up to a computer via the built in USB arm, the camera can then upload video automatically to social networking sites with the push of a button. [Read more…]
