It was a big day for Apple yesterday and certainly a day where an industry is shaken up a little. As well as launching iBooks 2 with Textbooks and iBooks Author for the Mac, Apple also launched iTunes U for the iPhone and iPad. The app follows along with iTunes U that has been available in iTunes on the Mac or PC for a while, but allows you to sync your notes, courses and content between devices so that you can study whilst on the move.
iBooks 2 Launches
Apple has launched iBooks 2. The new app comes as a free update to the original iBooks app and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Several new features have landed in version 2 which includes multi-touch textbooks that bring diagrams, photos and videos to the user. 3D objects can now be found in books as well as videos and other interactive content.
iBooks Author for Mac Released
As well as announcing iBooks 2 yesterday, Apple also unveiled a new way of letting users create content for iBooks 2. The app is called iBooks Author and it is available for free on the Mac.
iPhone and iPad Overflow Brings Cover Flow to the Dock
A new tweak called Overflow is now available for iOS devices that have been jailbroke. Overflow is a Cover Flow style tweak to the dock of an iPad or an iPhone as pictured below.
New iPad Case Hints at a Thicker iPad 2S
Before I begin I’ll just comment that this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as it contains an iPad 3 (or 2S) rumour.
A case manufacturer has created a new case that has been designed for an iPad 2S. The company believes that the new iPad will be a small update similar to that of the iPhone 4 to 4S. The main difference with dimensions will be that it is slightly thicker as previously rumoured.
Smartphone Data Plan Prices Increased at AT&T
AT&T [T] has changed pricing on its data plans. These new plans cover all tablets and smartphones. Pricing starts at $20/month which gives 300MB/month. Upping that to $30/Month you’ll get 3GB of data which is likely to be a plan that most opt for. Finally, for those even more consuming users there’s also a $50/month price plan which gives 5GB of data.
Tablet Web Traffic Comparison Shows iPad Still in the Lead
The advertising network Chitika has compiled some results in to a graph. The graph gives a comparison on how the competition is doing when compared to the Apple iPad.
The data was collected from US and Canadian users of tablets and is based on hundreds of millions of display ads seen on each of those devices. Due to the market share of the iPad the competition looked quite flat. To help visualise the data more easily, Chitika set the bar at 100 iPad impressions and then plotted what the competition was seeing.
UK Transformer Prime Users to Get Refund or Extended Warranty
For those who purchased an ASUS Transformer Prime in the UK, ASUS is now offering a full refund or an extension on the warranty due to the problems of the GPS found with the device.
Samsung Galaxy Note Launching in Canada in February

Transformer Prime GPS Fix Released
ASUS has released an update for the Transformer Prime. The update attempts to fix the GPS issues that some users have had with the new tablet. The update is available as a download from the ASUS website and brings the tablet up to version 9.4.2.7. This update is also an Ice Cream Sandwich update.
iConvert Dock Turns iPad in to a Scanner
iConvert is a dock for the iPad that has a scanner built in. The dock has a feeder tray that allows paper to be fed through a document scanner. When an iPad is docked with the scanner, you can load up an app and any data scanned can be captured and then sent direct to the app running on the iPad.
