Fujitsu Lifebook

fujitsu_lifebook
Fujitsu are releasing the Fujitsu Lifebook which has been announced as the worlds smallest laptop. It measures just 171x113x26.5 – 32mm and weighs just 280 grams. Not bad at all. Inside there is an 800Mz processor which is an Intel A110. Intel powers the onboard graphics chip. Also Wi-Fi, Ethernet and finger print sensors can be found. The screen is a tiny 5.6 inches which is touch screen and can be rotated. I guess that makes it in to a tablet PC. The resolution of the screen is 1024 x 600 which is quite a decent amount of pixels.

The battery can keep the device powered for 4 hours on XP or slightly less for those running Vista. It does look like a seriously nice piece of kit and very handy for those traveling who need full Windows access rather then a PDA or just email.

Motorola ROKR U9

Motorola_ROKR_u9_rokr
Motorola are releasing a new clamshell phone named the Rokr U9. It looks ok, although I am not a huge fan of clamshell phones. The screen is a 1.4 inch 128 x 160 pixel OLED which seems quite cool. It is a quad band phone with GPRS and EDGE. The camera is lacking at 2 mega pixels with no auto focus or flash. Inside is a 1.8 inch QVGA screen which has more colours then the outside one and is slightly larger in resolution at 240 x 320 pixels. Other features such as MP3 playback, memory card slots and Bluetooth connectivity can be found. Its not a bad phone, but nothing too exciting to be honest.

Cool Lamp

troja_arc_lamp
This lamp looks very cool. Its built with LEDs (hundreds of them) encased in a sweeping arc. This creates a nice warm halo of light around the person sat under it. I just wish I had the room to go with it as it wont sit well in a small living space. Still cool though, but unfortunately it wont be put in production as far as I can see with it being a one off piece.

Dr. Whippy Ice Cream Dispenser

Whippy
Most people love Mr Whippy ice cream. This new version named Dr. Whippy serves ice cream depending on how sad you are. The more sad you are, the more you get. It works by testing stress levels in your voice, and when detecting you are low in heart it gives you the appropriate amount of ice cream to lift you out of your sad state.

DIY Flat Panel

Flat Panel
Most of you will want to have your own flat panel TV because they look cool hung on a wall in your home. If you dont have the funds to buy one then you could make your own flat panel look a like by using an old cupboard and pushing a CRT in to a homemade frame. I cant say I will be doing this my self, but I guess its one idea that could work for those wanting a flat panel TV.

Nokia Maps
Nokia Maps has been released which has a few new features. A GPS status indicator can now be seen which shows you when a GPS signal is available and when it is in use. Also the map loading software is quicker which allows quicker navigation loading. Maps by Nokia is a powerful free application which has maps for more then 150 countries. The only things you need to watch out for are data charges from your mobile phone carrier. It helps to have an unlimited plan. Nokia Maps can pinpoint where you are via GPS and can pull information from a database of POI (point of interest) telling you things like how far the closest cash machine is.

Cool Porsche Mobile Phone

porsche-p9521-phone
The P9521 is designed by Porsche and looks great. It is the first ever designed phone by Porsche and is made from aluminium. The phone has a double hinge system which allows you to open the phone, rotate the screen and close it down in a similar way to the Clie. The glass on the screen is mineral glass and it does look amazing. Finger print scanning is built in and can replace a PIN code, or can be used to block access to certain parts of the phone. The camera is a 3.2 megapixel which is quite good and on the connectivity side there is GPRS and EDGE as well as being quad band. Bluetooth and USB are also built in.

Multi Sensory Screen – Concept Idea

Multi Touch
This concept idea has come from Microsoft Research and Mitsubishi Research Labs. It is a multi sensory screen which allows you to touch the back of the device to control what is on the front. This allows you to still see the full screen so that a pen or fingers do not obscure the view. LucidTouch is the name of the device and it uses pseudo-transparency which puts an overlay of the users hands on to the screen giving the effect of it being semi transparent. All fingers can be used at the same time with it being multitouch. A video demonstration is after the jump.

Robotic Piano Playing Hand

pianist-hand
This robotic hand is made of clear plastic and is capable of playing sections of Beethovens Fifth Symphony, The Entertainer and Minute Waltz. Each finger moves precisly. To start the hand from playing you just need to clap. The hand is powered by 2 AA batteries. I think it will make a creepy ornament for the fireplace.

The Pianist Hand Concert costs $16.95 from here.

Casio Exilim Youtube Ready Cameras

Casio Youtube Camera
The latest range of Exilim cameras will feature a YouTube capture mode which will record videos in the best quality and size for YouTube up loaders. The Exilim Series Z8 will also use H.246 compressions technologies. The Z8s have an 8 mega pixel sensor and also use Casios Exilim engine 2.0 for image processing.

On the YouTube side of things the camera comes bundled with software which can interface with YouTube and make uploading your videos easier. Another cool feature is face detection technology which is not new, but still cool to have.
