Aeroscraft ML866 – Huge Blimp

Aeroscraft ML866
The Aeroscraft ML866 is a combination blimp and plane which can take off vertically and fly similar to a plane by using the small wings. Most of the lift is provided by the helium inside. Inside it will have 5000 square feet of space which makes it fairly large to transport goods and passengers around. It will be capable of flying 155mph which is no where near the speed of a plane, but yet seriously fast for a huge inflatable.

A prototype of the beast should be ready in 2010.

Flying Lawnmower

I guess you now have a new excuse as to why the lawn wasnt cut… the lawnmower flew away 🙂

LampLamp – Light Bulb with 2 Screw Threads

LampLamp
The LampLamp is a weird idea which takes a regular lightbulb shape, but adds an extra screwthread on to the bulb part which is where the power is drawn from. When hanging from the ceiling it looks like the bulb is not actually plugged in. Although weird, it is kind of a cool idea. It will set you back $28 per lamp for one of these which is a tad steep. But if you like to be different then this is for you. The bulb is powered at 30 watts which isnt too bright, but good for a desk lamp or a low lit room.

C620 3D GPS Mapping

mio-c620
The C620 utilises MioMap 2008 which is a new version of sat nav software. Maps are provided by TeleAtlas which allows for nice up to date maps. As well as being a regular map, some 3D models of landmarks, buildings and other features have been included which immerses you in to the map even more. The C620 will have a 4.3 inch touch screen which we are not sure if it is widescreen or regular aspect.

I have to admit that the map image shown above does look great and will add to the whole GPS experience when driving. This is one I will be keeping an eye out for.

Omni-Directional Treadmill

A company named Virtual Space Devices Inc. has created the omni directional treadmill (ODT). The treadmill can slide around on 2 axis allowing people to be immersed in a digital landscape and roam around freely. You will notice on the video above that when changing direction there is little if any inertial residue.

The device could be used for a number of things such as entertainment, exercise and business use. When used for business it could allow people to walk around a virtual building to see what it is like before it is built.

The whole idea looks quite cool. All we need now is something on the z-axis to replicate stairs and hills and we are set.

Mod your WebCam in to a Telescope

Webcam Telescope

Using a heat sink, webcam and other items you can make a nice telescope camera

When wanting to take pictures of the stars you often find that you will need to spend a lot of money to begin with buying the telescope, camera and other parts needed. By using a regular webcam from a PC you can actually create quite a nice camera for your telescope. You will need to have some skills with electronics to be able to take the camera apart and solder wires and connect parts to a heat sink. If you can do this then check out the video after the jump which explains the process on getting a cool webcam telescope camera.

USB Cooler for your Seat

usb butt cooler
The USB butt cooler is another one of those crazy USB gadgets which comes from the other side of the world. It is basically a USB cushion that you put on your chair which blows cool air upwards keeping you cool in the office through the summer.

Super Mario Bros on the iPhone

An NES emulator has been created for the iPhone although, as can be seen from the video it doesnt look too playable. Hopefully those little bugs can be ironed out to bring it to the speed we all want. As well as being able to load up the emulator, of course there are a lot of games such as Super Mario Bros, Metroid and Zelda. The controls are used on the touch screen which also emulates the NES controller.

I do like the look of this, and if they can get it to run a bit faster and iron out some quirks all should look great.

Mental RC Helicopter

RC Helicopter flys at great speed

This RC helicopter looks like it is hyperactive. It uses some motor that can be heard being named the super motor on the youtube video above. As can be seen in the video it can fly in all directions at a very quick rate. It seems like the rotor blades are twisting rapidly to change direction so quick as it wouldnt really be possible to stop the blades and spin them in the other direction that quickly.

If you do know how this RC helicopter flys in different directions so quick then post a comment 🙂

Fingershield Safety – Stop Trapping your Fingers

FingerShield
The Fingershield is a safety device which wraps around the part of the door where the hinges are located. The safety device prevents children and adults from trapping their fingers causing severe damage and sometimes a loss of fingers. From what I learn on the fingershield site the amount of force per square inch on the closing hinge area of the door can be up to 40 tonnes… thats a lot of force on your fingers.

Having trapped my own finger in a door within the last year, I know that it hurts and this device can easily prevent any harm from being done due to shielding the dangerous areas. More details of the fingershield can be found over at Fingershieldsafety site.

Lego Computer running Kubuntu Linux

Lego PC
The Lego computer was made from an old Dell Dimension 2400 which was laying around Jeremy Duenas’ house. He decided to strip it down and build it back up in a case made of Lego. The Lego PC runs Kubuntu Linux (due to him not wanting the XP Pro overheating the plastic Lego bricks). The idea is excellent and very unique. I like how there is a bridge in there and a Lego man sitting in a control centre. Top marks for effort there!!

28 more images of the Lego PC can be found over at Jeremys Blog.

Rocket Man Suit

Rocket Man Suit

Rocket Man Suit lets you fly through the sky

Yves Rossy has been flying on wings for a number of years. From what information I can gather it seems like he has now created a jet powered wing to strap on his back and fly around. It has 4 jet engines on it. This particular wing seems to have been damaged around April and is currently being repaired. For now, here are some pictures to enjoy of this wing and what it is capable of.
